HELP PLEASE! I am new to MODs...

Okay. I just got the game for PC and I haven't even played it yet. I have played it on my PS3 before this, so yes I have played the game before. Anyway, I downloaded a bunch of MODs which I know some of them are not working correctly.

MODs-- Kvatch Rebuilt, Suicup 2, Adaman Fortress, Beautiful People, Bravil Sea Domes, Brothel of Cyrodiil, Character Generate Amulet, CM Partners, Darth Maul, Deadly Reflex, Devils and Dark Angels (I think is the name), Elves of Lineage II, Frostmourne Sword, HGEC Body, Levelers Cheat, Lich Kings Armor, Lich Queens Pack, Lost Paladins of the Divines, Midas Magic- Spells of Aurum, Midas Magic Companions, Mountain Tower, Nec Mystic High Elf Remake, Oblivion Pose Pack II and III, Reznod Mannequins, Saurans Armor Chest, Silver Dragon Armory, Unofficial Oblivion Patch, and a few updates or extra pieces to a few of the MODs.

So here's the problems I have noticed so far...the eyes of all the races are entirely black, half of the races don't show up at all but I can still select that race, and I tried using one of the pose spells and it formed a large yellow thing above my head every time it was casted. Please help because I have been trying to sort this stuff out since Saturday night.

Another quick question. Am I installing the files correctly? I copied all .esp and .esm files and pasted them into the Data folder. Then I made a folder for every MOD and copied and pasted everything from each MOD into the proper folders. I DID read all Read Me documents and installed the files correctly, I do believe.

Beautiful people is what would cause the Eyes go wonky. That is IF you have ANY other mod installed that also has eye meshes. They do not play well with each other. Better get Rens beauty mod alone and leave BP away.

Like Sierra said, all the mods go into Data (they usually come packed with their own folder structure, looking like this "the.esp, Textures, Meshes") that all goes into the Data folder. it must all be in the same folder not in a subfolder for each mod.

But i think you got at least BP working or else you would not have the googly eye syndrome. Since you did not play yet, you won't lose so much by reinstalling. Clear out the data folders and start from the beginning (leaving out BP). I don't know most of the mods you use, seems mostly quest related, so there should be no problems there (at least to start the game with a normal looking char).

Good luck.

Mods are generally buggy and cause lots of conflicts and problems. I suggest that You install one mod, play-test for an hour. If not broken yet, install another mod, and play-test for an hour. Repeat the cycle. Even this cautious approach will not work. You will fail to play-test in all locations and under all operating conditions. Problems will go undetected for hours or days, and by that time, you will have many many new mods which could be causing the problem. I suppose you could only install one mod per day. That would give you longer play-testing periods and increase your chances.

Black eyes sound like missing textures. The dds's that belong in your texture file are in the wrong place. Yellow exclamation points are missing meshes. Your nif files are not in the proper place in the meshes folder. Consult the readme files. You will need to move, or perhaps reinstall lots of meshes and textures. You can decompress another copy of a mod to examine it's mesh and texture directory trees so that you can make yours under Oblivion\Data\Meshes and Oblivion\Data\Textures match perfectly.

Oh thank you very much! Thank you all. I am almost done putting the files in their proper places and plan to try them out soon. I only need to finish placing files for about 8 more MODs then I am done. Takes forever to do! lol

Loading a bunch of mods at once is asking for problems. And the time you think you are saving will be paid back in troubleshooting. BOSS, OBMM and Dezi's load order can help a lot in this, but loading one at a time and testing, as David Brasher said, is still the best way.

Not every mod will work with every other mod, some will not be compatible no matter what your load order.

I have lost count of how many posts have said something like "I just loaded 20 mods and now my game dosn't work, what is the problem?" - No other information as to what mods, load order, what operating sys, if they have patched, if they have OBSE or OBMM or how the game dosn't work.

The answer to this one is "You just loaded 20 mods without testing. Uninstall all 20, track down all of the meshes and textures and remove them. Then start over and install one at a time and test before installing another. Or reinstall and start over." Just disabling the esp in the list does not remove the textures and meshes, it only stops the esp part from loading when you start the game. :wallbash:

By converting the mods to OMOD format using OBMM and installing them that way, disabling the OMOD actually does remove everything, including all texture and mesh files. This makes troubleshooting much easier.

Now that I have that rant out of the way, You may not have a problem, especially if you are using all popular mods that BOSS can recognize and order properly. Or using someone elses recommended list of mods that are known to work together.

regarding the Yellow exclamation mark thingy: That is Oblivions way to tell you the the Object it has been told to draw there can not be found, i.e., a mesh is missing. Maybe something went wrong with the Download (happens rarely) or you have overwritten said mesh while installing another mod there. Happens way more often...
