My NPC Follower won't talk to me.

Hey gang,

 

First time posting, feeling like a dumbass. I've been scouring the internet for nearly 3 months, hundreds of different forums, multiple tutorial attempts, hundreds of hours logged trying to troubleshoot this problem and I'm hoping you peeps will have an answer for me. First off, I don't know what I need to supply for you in order for you to help, so let me know what you need to see and I'll set it up.

 

Anyway, the problem:

 

Basically I'm creating an NPC follower based out of Megaton. I'm trying to keep it basic since I haven't the first clue about programming/level design, etc. but I've hit a snag. I've done the behavioural packages, they work. He walks around town, smokes, chills at the restaurant, all that fun stuff. I've done him up how I want him to look, he's carrying what I want, looking how I want, super. The problem is that he won't freaking talk to me. I've got all the Topics in there, all the Conversations are set correct. I've been in and out of everything that I can possibly think of and he just won't say anything. He's in the NPCFollowersList, he's not apart of any factions, all the appropriate Dialog topics have been filled out and linked (ie. GetScriptVaribles) correctly. There doesn't appear to be anything I'm doing wrong.

 

Specifically, a dialog box comes up, but there's nothing in it. After a short few seconds it goes away. It's like he's trying to start the quest with me but he can't access the dialog.

 

I could really do with some help here as this small personal task of mine has been the bane of my existance since I started. I've tried doing it on my own, now I'm looking for some guidence. Do any of you have any ideas what I might have screwed up/forgotten about/should check into?

Yeah he has the Greeting topic. Specifically 3 items in it:

 

1. Prompted "hello" with a "FollowersHired" under Add Topics.

2. Greeting from after Waiting once Hired with the usual Let'sGo Choices.

3. A generic "G'Day" that answers once Hired.

 

Following the tutorials I have (specifically the Mika The Sniper tute), I'm told I should add the GetScriptVarible of "MyNPCHired" to it, even when they're meeting for the first time. Could that be what's mucking everything up?

 

I've made a mechant that works fine and talks to me and he barely has anything in his Topics list and nothing in his Conversations. Just a GREETING and a VendorBuyChoice :S

Oh.... Freaking... Snap.

 

Turns out after all this time being stupid, I've only just realised that I've got the mental capacity of a capsicum. Turns out running that ScriptVarible of "Hired" was what was stopping everything from working. Only problem now is, the damn NPC doesn't follow me when I interact with them.

 

Maybe I should update this already obsolete thread topic :P
