For a while, I've been downloading and copy-pasting the Mod files into Skyrim's Data folder manually.

Then I finally decided to try NMM. I really dont know why I haven't tried NMM before...

Anyway, NMM doesn't seem to recognize the Mods I've installed manually.

The Mods list is empty even though I have mods already installed into the game (SkyrimUI, etc.)

Should I download and apply the Mods again, this time using NMM? Or is that a bad idea? It might overlap or something and majorly crash Skyrim completely.

Is there any FAQ or walkthrough for players who "used to install Mods manually, but now started to use NMM"?

The mods installed manually won't appear in the "Mods" tab of NMM, those that are there are basically the mod archives that you download. The manually installed mods that have .esp/.esm plugins will only appear in the "Plugins" tab of NMM.

If you really want everything to be nicely sorted, you could deleted the files of the manually installed mods, then redownload and reinstall them with NMM. To be sure you deleted what's right, open the said mods archive and see the files you have to remove.

OR you can install the same mod again with NMM too and choose to overwrite the files when NMM asks, but this way when you uninstall the mod, the files will still remain in your Skyrim folder, because they were originally there (NMM re-adds the files it has overwritten if I remember right).

I use the manual download then install using the NMM 'Add mod from File' instead of allowing NMM to download and install all at once - that gives me the flexibility to install either way with a mod. And it also works for mods downloaded from some other site that does not have the Install using Mod Manager option. As they were installed ( but not downloaded) using NMM, they will appear on the mods page. Removing a mod from NMM does not remove it from my download folder - It's still there if I want to reinstall it later. And I can keep older versions just in case.

Yes, it does take a little longer, but gives me far more flexibility in how I handle mods.
