jasonblake
I have a bit of experience with Oblivion/Fallout3 mods but yesterday I bought a new computer and know next to nothing about the changes in Vista. I installed Oblivion with no problem but when I tried to add a few of my favorite mods my luck turned around. I searched for some answers and fought a few people saying that if you're running Vista you have to install the game in a seprate C file to avoid Vista's notorious security BS. If this is true could someone give me a heads-up? Also is their a differnt way that Im supposed to be installing the mods? Thanks.
ipegot
Just don't install Oblivion to the program files directory. Shouldn't need to do anything else. So either make some folder somewhere to install oblivion to like c:\games or just straight install oblivion to c:\
Netwit2008
I'm running the game on a Vista 64 bit machine. First thing to do is make sure you are running things as an administrator. The main problem is that security glitch. People say to dl the game to C:// due to not needing the same type of permissions. However, I didn't know that when I installed the game, so it went into the program files. To dl some mods that have master files (.esm), it will ask me if it's ok to continue. I say yes and the mod installs. I use OBMM- Oblivion Mod Manager. Bben46 and Dezdimona have written some good responses to people on how to use this. Bben's library site: http://s1.zetaboards.com/TheStormRavenLibrary/forum/256092/ is a great place to learn to download mods. He addresses the Vista issue there as well, if I remember correctly. I have over 50 mods now and have had very little trouble, even with the game installed in the program files section of my computer. I hope that helps. Hopefully Dezi and Bben will be along shortly and they'll give you much clearer and better help than I've tried to. But rest assured you can run it on Vista, even 64 bit, because I do. Good luck! :)

jaydapie
Have you actually had any specific problems? I have Vista and Oblivion works fine for me. The CS is a bit freezy (though it is anyway lol), but as far as mods go it seems ok. I just run it in compatibility mode for XP. However, one thing which is a bit annoying is sometimes it messes up because it downloads things into a hidden section which you access via 'compatibility mode' (as you've probably noticed), but all I tend to do with that is just cut and paste the 'compatibility mode' files into the normal files. The best option of course is to UPgrade to XP or 2000 (lol) : )
ipegot
I think its funny how people still seem to think that xp is better than vista because they dont learn how to use the OS. Vista is fine and Oblivion works fine on Vista, there are several simple solutions that make the game run exactly as intended without having to use some compatibility mode. (Vista is roughly 3 years old and 7 is on the horizon, though the changes aren't huge. If your system is current generation there's no reason to use a previous generation OS.)
