First project - Over-ambitious/Where to start?

Call me crazy, but I've decided to dive into FNV modding by making (or at least attempting to make) a short quest/story mod inspired by a song that a local radio station keeps playing. Included will be at least four new NPCs, at least one unique weapon, and at least two quests.

Plain and simple, am I being too ambitious for a first mod, and are there any tutorials I should watch aside from Seddon's?

No. Your not being too ambitious at all. A good place to start is a short quest mod. What is ambitious is a giant new world space being your first mod( which is what I'm doing  ) If you need more help check out this forum that has a huge list of tutorials to help you:http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/269597-how-to-become-a-modder/

Lol, I'll take that as a vote of confidence, then :3

Thanks for the link, I'll get to reading it later tonight.

Also, are there any Nexus-related hurdles/roadblocks I should know about regarding the use of copyrighted content (I.E music)? If I can get away with it, I want to integrate the song that inspired me, because A: It fits the FNV world (and a few vanilla characters, actually), and B: It'd be awesome. I know I'll have to get the artist's permission, which I'm working on now (he's a friend of a friend, seriously doubt he'll say no), but I can't recall if the Nexus has any rules about that sort of thing.

I don't know unfortunately. There are a lot of mods on the Nexus that add a lot of new period era music into the game so I don't know if copyright will be an issue. You may need to ask someone who created or is creating a radio station mod about the rules regarding copyright for music.

Music has to be royalty free, or so old and obscure that nobody is gonna check.

There are quite a few music packs on here that include a ton of technically copyrighted music, but nobody really cares as the artists died decades ago.

It's a judgement call that you have to make. Elvis? No. Rat Pack? Nooope. Obscure pre-1950s bluegrass band? You'd get away with that.

About what I thought.
