888mikem888
Me personally, in all playthroughs that I've actually gotten further than Honest Hearts dlc in (which is about 5 hours total or something for me) I've always had guns instead of energy weapons. But energy weapons are kinda cool, and I've hardly used them since I've been playing FNV. And with a mod that makes them as equally dangerous as they were in the classic Fallouts as well as EVE, they become pretty appealing. I've never really considered tagging both guns and energy weapons before though, has any one tried that before? Was it really helpful? Or did you feel it was a waste of a tag skill? EDIT I messed around a little bit with a character that had both guns and energy weapons, and now that I think about it, it seems a bit like there's too much to choose from when you've got both, if that makes any sense. So with that in mind, I think I'd just keep one of them as my main combat skill. But I'd still like to hear your thoughts. LittleFighter
I have never liked energy weapons. They just don't feel the same as regular bullet using guns.
charwo
I figure that in the post war world, to overspecialize in combat just makes you a meat shield. I despise character class games for reasons of over specialization, so I always plot my characters with a back story that justifies their tags and specializations. My Fallout 1 character was a rising star in the post-Fascist party of the Vault, which was actually one of the more democratic factions. She was sent out into the Wastes because she was the most expendable person most likely to come back alive. But she's very smart, and moreover a charismatic up and comer, so: Small Guns, Medicine, and Speech My Fallout 2 character was recycled, but had I been inclined to playing a born and raised tribal, I would have condensed the timeline so the Elder was no relation and the Chosen One's Father was Albert Cole, the 'canonical' Vault Dweller. So, whether I like it or not, Speech, Barter (from second hand Vault education from Vault 13 parents) and Outdoorsman. My Fallout 3 character is actually a composite of the twins of James and Catherine, then starts to merge with Brisa Almodovar. April is a doctor/vet/dentist (omnidisciplinary thanks to Vault mind imprinting, as seen in Fallout 2), her brother is a full engineer, but where's she's a classic science hero with all of the arrogance and strong will that goes with it, he's soft spoken and gentle and always phlegmatic.April's tags would be: Medicine, Science, Small GunsBrian's tags would be: Science, Repair, Energy WeaponsThe composite character is most April being the hero, and Brian and Brisa playing support, so the tags are: Science, Medicine, Repair. Each tag is appropriate to the beginning of their journey, and all they did before.
