mechine
Sounds like yet another reason to install fallout 3 outside of program files an therefore outside the system/windows shell There's Games for windows live, an then direct X Heck try updating either, for one you don't get the 9.1 10.1 direct x update from windows update. You have to find it an install. I know the 9.0 update is called something like direct X 9 end user something or another it's a real funny name, an doesn't really suggest that it's a update for us, but it is... Since that didn't help you at all, but you did it anyway, we hope... You wana narrow that stuff down 1. turn off all the mods in the load order except fallout.esm, then run fallout 3 load a save "yes I know I'm missing content" then see if it does it again 2. Same thing as above, but don't use FOSE to launch or FOMM to launch FOSE, launch via the default launcher 3. Then turn the mods back on, yes SCORE, tons of mods, just what I wanted, start a new game to confirm that this issue isn't a corupted save game (which is easy to do) It could have nothing to do with windows update and the privious day where you were running around like a mad chicken with it's head cut off across the wasteland Somewhere along the line the data went corupt for one reason or the other, to which you kept running around for and hour of more before you crashed an found out about it, even further, creating new saves which also now contain that "corupted data" This is why we don't quick save or auto save which actually promote corupted data Press Esc and create new saves each time (don't even overwrite) also keep about 20 or more saves, so you can roll back 4.Windows update, come on, ditch that crap, don't you get tired of the system message popping up on top of other windows even if your in game, yeah the other day I was pwning a raider an then this window pops up, there's a update for windows totally killed my buzz, dude.... Go to start menu, click run, type in msconfig, then go thru all that advanced stuff turning all the crap off, update is in the services tab, I think there's only like 25 services that you need in order to run stuff, but you know, it's not really a performance enhancement, because the gains you get are minimal You can however turn off the crap you don't need or is getting on your nerves, like the security center on this computer it's just games an that's it, so I don't use all that, but before I tweeked it I got these super anoying pop up bubbles saying "your computer may not be protected from catching crabs" There's web-site guides to tweeking windows. Depends on what was in the windows update in the end, but we'll never know I guess, an I kind of doubt that it had anything that would jinx fallout, idk it could maybe jinx games for windows live, or maybe even apply a patch to your game you didn't wantif you were running 1.5 or something, there's a more easy way to find out, I right click the fallout3.exe an propertiesthen go to the version tab to see which version I have, FOSE for one, will only support an work with certain versionsbut I mean this is a highly unlikely cause, just had to throw that out there since I'm blabbing on an on. I guess when all else fails go to the start menu, programs, acc, system tools, then pick system restorethen restore to before the point where the update was applied. uvigz
1. turn off all the mods in the load order except fallout.esm tried not long after posting, didn't help. and its propably my fault not being clear enough but the game CTD BEFORE menu loads so it isn't corrupted saves. i already reinstalled FO3 as a last resort before reinstalling windows (thats why i didn't reply yesterday, was to busy downloading mods) it seems to be working fine for now. i think maybe the problem was that i decided to blindly install all optional updates (sleepy minds do stupid things) but i don't know why it would work fine after reinstall unless in those optional updates i installed some king of FO3 update (or windows live update i guess). probably i should say that i don't install updates often. i usualy install them once a month or so. 4. Windows update, come on, ditch that crap, don't you get tired of the system message popping up on top of other windows it hadn't popped on then i was playing games yet. eather its a coincidense or it was updated becouse it sometimes pops up then i exit the games. ps. im sorry for any grammar mistakes or strange wording. i learned english by myself so im not that good at it. VerbalEarthworm
i have my Automatic Windows Updates turned on and i let the System download updates without asking me with a pop-up, then it waits until i Shutdown before installing them. lately, i am getting an average of 2 updates daily. if you only update once per month, then that would entail a lot of alterations at once. i have noticed slight performance issues in Fallout3 after certain Windows updates, but they soon passed. i also recommend that you do a System Restore to check that your problem was caused by the update, it could just be a coincidence. p.s. your English usage is far better than many native typers on this site. mechine
Crashing even before the load screen is a red flag that the load order is wrong. Did you install Fallout 3 in it's own folder outside of program files. Idk that pretty much takes it out of the windows pie. C:/bethesdasoftworks not C:/programfiles/bethesdasoftworks Heh, eventually people with automatic updates are going to have a window pop up while in gamethat says something about a update is available. LOLZ it's kind of funny an anoying at the same time.Pfft, you don't even really need those updates. toggle off the archive invalidation then back on then get FO3edit an master update it And the system restore is always an option you find it in start menu, programs, system tools nothing suggests that a windows update would have anything to do with the performance or non performance of fallout 3 But then not everybody uses FOSE to disable GFWL among the other great things about FOSE Then also not everybody blocks internet access to GFWL and Fallout via the windows firewall (since GFWL is disabled anyway) Also GFWL (games for windows live) did have a hotfix a while back which was causing something kind of like what you have forgot where I got it at, probably at the GFWL website. Sounds like yet another reason to disable it an take windows finger out of the pie. hmmmm can't think of anything else.
