Ok guys, so i paid and Downloaded Oblivion off of Direct2Drive.com (not illegal) and so i have some troubles with the resolution. I just got a New laptop with 1600 x 900 capability's. and so i went into Oblivion and Went to Options in the launcher. and tried putting the settings to the highest ( 1600 x 900) and then i hit the play button. i started a new game and created my Character. When i finished creating him the screen went black. the crosshairs and compass, health bar etc. were still there but no landscape or character. i tried loading a previous save file. same thing. I tried all resolutions and all of them do the same thing except for the lowest setting. And it looks really bad! and the game lags. so i was wondering how i could fix this? any ideas?

One more thing. with the Elven_map_Redux-3002 the window for the map shows but not the actual map. the map locations show too. and i took that mod off and the same thing happens to the normal map. no map. so i was wondering what to do with that aswell? :thanks:

Just because your max supported resolution on the laptop is 1600x900 that doesnt mean you can play the game with that high of a resolution. Do you know what your video card is? I presume you are using Vista as your operating system.

Hit your windows/start button and click on control panel.

Click on System.

Under system information there will be a line called Rating and a link called Windows Experience Index. Click on "Windows Experience Index"

In the next window click on "View and print details".

From the next window copy and paste that information here.

You're video card only has 64 megs of dedicated memory, this isn't very much. I'm also perty sure that video chipset is an onboard video card with little power, your laptop will not be able to play video games with high settings. Start by turning down your game settings. View distance will need to come to zero. Distant land off, turn off all shadows, lighting options, water reflections etc. Make sure anti-aliasing is off. start at the lowest resolution and see how playable it is, work from there.

I wish you could just download better chipsets. <.< A chipset is a processor or set of processors, they're mechanical parts of your computer so it would need to be physically replaced. Mind you that chipset/video processor is part of your motherboard. (The motherboard is the main part of the physical computer) You also cant just add a video card to a laptop.

Sadly I dont know of anything you can do to make your game any better than lowering video settings as much as possible and making sure you're video drivers are as up to date as possible. I wouldn't know where to check for the most up to date version of your chipset drivers but they probably wont make much of a difference in your case. I'm not sure if anyone else would have more info on here that could help you out :|
