gracietoo
ullo... I am only about level 3 and pretty hopeless at defending myself physically or magically and I am wondering if I have bitten off more than I can chew taking on the oblivion gate quest. Do I need to be really powerful, in any sense to manage that? I keep getting killed before I have gone anywhere or done anything. Kinda puts me off trying again. I have to hunt around for something to shut the gate - if I can stay alive long enough... :verymad:
LoginToDownload
At level 3, you should be fighting almost entirely Dremora Churls and Stunted Scamps. Try to take them on one at a time, run backward when they try to melee you, and save often. It's brutally hard if you can't defend yourself, but still doable. If all else fails, just make a break for the tower and climb it as quickly as possible, ignoring everything you can. :D Are you using any difficulty-increasing mods? Pronam
Everyone that played the main quest directly after they had bought oblivion managed to do so ending on level 2-4.You can play it at any level, just don't forget that any rewards are quite small at lower levels. (without the use of mods then.)There can be a strange gap between some of the levels, where they are a bit overpowered. but that's above level 10 :).. Don't forget that you've got a shield to protect yourself. Just hitting while your opponent is hitting will end up getting you both killed. The simple tactic is to wait with your shield up until your opponent hits it(or your weapon if you use that to shield), so you can attack without getting full hit. If an enemy seems to tack a step backwards (a power attack) be sure to run backwards. With or without shielding (without runs faster), as they deal a great hit on your health. I can easily kill ordinary Goblins ( I am a wood elf btw) with a fiery blast, and I can kill ogres if they are ordinary, but not the chief. I am not using any increase in difficulty mods that I am aware, unless OOO incorporates such. Thanks for the advice all, I will try to follow it :)
Argomirr
OOO does increase the difficulty. Quite a bit. :)
puddington
If you can get your conjuration up 50 at low levels, you open up a lot more survivability. Step 1: get monster's attention. Step 2: Summon Flame Atronach. Step 3: Hide around the corner and refresh summon when it's almost over. Step 4: Loot corpses.
