Help with mods to Oblivion Gates

I'm playing around with the idea of using active oblivion gates in Morroblivion's Vvardenfell worldspace.

 

The accessible scripts just seem to determine conditions for how the gates activate, spawn creatures, etc; the linked paths script for the random oblivion worlds looks to be baked into the gate functionality, so I can't see why I can't get them to work.

 

A simple tutorial says that teleport functionality is tied to another, nearby object (xmarker), which decides, upon activation, to which random world the gate sends you, but upon testing, I just get the message that the gate doesn't go anywhere.

 

I've played around with this for some time, but can't seem to get any further, so I'm looking for advice. Anyone tried this?

 

The specific gate needs to be pointed at the xmarker, right? Does this marker tie in to the random world network once linked to the gate?
