Larsenexz
Greetings. I am new to modding Xcom. I have both EU and EW. I have HxD and I went into the EXE file in binarys in my EW folder and renamed both stings to 'Y'. I was not able to do it to the loadouts file as I could not find it. I am more than willing to uninstall everything and start from scratch. Once I use HXD and rename it from Xcom to Ycom, do I start the game from that exe? I ask because I am still launching the game from the old Xcom shortcut on my desktop and I am wondering if that is the reason why I am not seeing any changes be applied. Also I have modded both the game core files in both the EW folder and the one in My documents but there are no changes taking place. What I am really asking for is a step by step process for a complete idiot (me) if anyone has the time to guide me. I have some experience doing similar but this type of modding I am ignorant on and just need direction on how to. I really want to mod the perk trees a bit and remove the will loss penalty and keep the arc thrower in the pistol slot. I really loved that! Any help would welcome. I already have DIY wiki mod link but for some reason it is not working. I saved it to desktop at home.
wghost81
I've made a video tutorial some time ago for one of my ini EXALT mods. May be this will help. If you can't find DefaultLoadouts.ini, you probably doing something wrong. It will help, if you'll provide exact path and exe file name. You may be working with the wrong one. If you have EW, clicking on shortcut should bring up launcher where you can choose between EU and EW. It's a perfectly correct way to run a game, modded or not. Wiki is back now, so you can check How to DIY article and make sure you're following the instructions precisely.
Larsenexz
Wghost, thank you. I will look at this extensively tonight. What does changing the name in binary do?
wghost81
DefaultGameCore.ini and DefaultLoadouts.ini have copies, embedded directly into XComEW.exe. By "distorting" those two names you make engine think they're not there anymore and make it look for loose files in XComGame\Config\ folder. Larsenexz
Wghost, I reinstalled both Xcom and STeam. Instead of programs86 I just put steam in its on folder in the C drive. This should not change anything other than it being in its own folder correct?
wghost81
Larsenexz, you shouldn't install games into Program Files folder ever. Please, read the Steam and mods article carefully (it's linked in "How to DIY..." too). It's probably the cause of your problems with ini editing. Larsenexz
Wghost in the wikia it says you 'may' enable default loadouts. Do I need to, or not? Do I search for the defaultloadouts INI file IN the same (exe) that I was just working with?

Larsenexz
Ghost, The previous attempt steam was installed in its default directory (programs86), This time I deleted all content and I am reinstalling it in its own folder on the C drive, I called it 'steam'. It is not under programs or programs86
Krazyguy75
The reason you may enable default loadouts is that this will allow you to modify default loadouts. However, if you aren't planning to modify them, well, there would be very little point.
