Osprey88
I'm about 90 percent positive this isn't possible, but I just thought I'd mention it. I was playing Dissidia today and I noticed they have soft-body animation (correct me if i'm wrong, i might be thinking of the wrong term here) over things like capes and long hair. I know that some people like growlf have figured out how to attach hair to bones and animate them that way, but I've always wondered if the engine allows for physics to be applied to the biped model at all (sort of like it's applied to clothing ground models except elaborately) I figure if it was possible it would have been done already, but maybe somebody knows something I don't
SpacemanSpIiff
Theres a reason why most games dont include physics enabled hair, Some of them include: -Eats up memory when you constantly calculate the dynamic hair movement-It wont look good when the hair planes either pass through each other or bounce off each other.(this is why most games by default have short hair, because long hair wont look right static, or clipping through characters) I know there are games out there that have physics enabled hair, but it never ever looks that good..plus I think it depends on the games engine whether or not anything on a character can be a dynamic physics object (robes, clothing, hair.) Im quite sure the oblivion engine does not allow for this because as far as i've seen it only allows things to be parented to a joint in the skeleton so... ...Short answer is no, not possible. Then again thats only what I think...I may be wrong.
Osprey88
Now that I look closely at the character models on Dissidia (particularly Sephiroth's) I noticed that the hair isn't alpha enabled, which I'm sure is why this is possible. SickleYield
You can have rigged hair models (they're not "animated" any more than any other piece of clothing) if they're equipped as wigs. The engine does not allow looped animation and rigging data on the same item. This is why weapons can be animated, but clothes and equippable hairs can't. There have been attempts to get around that with super-skeletons that use hair "bones," but that pretty much would require every idle and combat anim in the game to be redone, and so far that's been more work than any one person has wanted to do. Oh, thats cool. Seems like it would require a team to pull that off then..
