Can't Launch With Game EXE or FNV4Gb

Something weird happened earlier. Was several hours into a playthrough and the game crashed (surprise, right?) and when I attempted to restart using FNV4Gb it took me instead to the default launcher. I NEVER use the default launcher, have never had to. Tried clicking on the game .exe itself without FNV4Gb, again with the flipping launcher. Tried the NVSE_loader and it started the game without going to the launcher but that leaves me trying to play a heavily modded game with only 2Gb of memory, as does starting the game with the launcher, of course..

I've spent the rest of the afternoon trying to get the game to start without using the launcher and with the LAA flag set and so far no luck. I even tried a total uninstall and reinstall of the game and as soon as it was installed tried starting it with the regular .exe file again and it still jumped straight to the launcher. This was with no mods or utilities of any kind even installed.

 

Somewhere in this forum I've read about others having this issue in the past but it's buried in the thousands of pages of posts and so far I haven't come up with the right search terms to find it. I'm hoping someone can help the senile old guy figure this out and get his game back up and running. Otherwise, it's going to be bye bye FNV. I've been afraid to even check to see in FO3 is doing the same thing. :/

Anyway, if someone could explain this in simple English that even I can understand, I'll be eternally grateful.

yup .. the new one did not work for me either > so I had to go back with the previous... don't fix something that isn't broken, meaning for me there is that the FNV4g version I had ran fine & there was no reason for me to change it but did it anyway....

I'm really trying to get it working for you. I don't see how changing 2 lines of code and adding about 6 more can completely break something for you. It seems to work for 2500+ people, and doesn't work for less than 5.

 

I've asked for the log, you don't post it, you don't answer any questions or give any feedback on suggestions that either I or Athelbras have given you. You just post "This doesn't work" and then start a bitching topic about it... what is it you want? If you don't like it fine don't use it.

 

It doesn't change ANYTHING about your system at all, so you can't blame it for your game not running. AGAIN you must run the game at least ONCE from the launcher for it bypass it thereafter.

In my case, the problem was NOT due to FNV4Gb. FNV4gb is working fine now just as it always has.

 

For those interested, my .ini files had been heavily tweaked also and apparently something in one of my addbacks... maybe FNV4GB, maybe not... had conflicted wih something in one of them. In any event, once I had figured out that FNV4Gb wasn't the problem and pounded my head on the desktop for a couple of hours I eventually got around to deleting the configuration files and letting Steam recreate them. That did the trick. Sorry I didn't get back here sooner but I didn't get all this figured out and the game running until late last night. I appreciate your quick response and repeat... your mod is working great... just as it always has... and my problem had nothing to do with it other than a possible conflict with something else that I myself had done.

 

(Sorry if I didn't catch all the typos... I'm a stroke victim and typing is something I'm no longer fluent in. :) )

That all having beens said... #1, this is the first and only reply I've seen from you on this thread so not sure when you requested the log. #2. Likewise for my not supplying any feedback or answering questions, as a quick look at this thread shows, I haven't been asked any questions or for any feedback and even if I had, the thread itself is less than 24 hours old and I slept through part of that.

 

I did post on someone else's thread (to which I'm not subscribed) on the same subject but I also went back to that thread and posted that I had come to the conclusion that FNV4Gb was most likely NOT the culprit & I thought I was being very careful to make this thread other than a "bitching" or "this doesn't work" post. I meant it only as a request for info from anyone who might have encountered the same problem and found a solution to it which I kind of thought was what forums and comment sections are for in the first place.

 

Sorry you took it as criticism of what to me has been an indespensible addition to my game. I think that if you ever had accasion to read my other posts, you'd find them all very respectful and even defensive of authors and uploaders against the kind of posts you're implying this one is but that's neither here nor there. I'll try not to bother you with my petty bitching and unwarranted criticisms again but since this is the only means we mere users have for geting information on a program I'm not sure I can guarantee it. Feel free to ignore me in the future and I'll simply hope other users might have an answer or two.

@ Nofsdad: I'm very glad you figured out the problem and got your FNV working again. The uploaded files thread is usually the place where users ask questions or seek help with problems with a particular mod as it's easy for the author to check those threads. The questions I was referring to were in that thread.

 

I apologize if you think what I said was entirely directed at you, I can assure you it was not. It was more directed at alienzerox. Again I apologize as it was very late and I was a bit cranky myself, hehe. I am still a bit annoyed with alienzerox's comments however...

No problem. Having taught an EMT class to young adults for several years, I know how frustrating it can get answering the same old questions over and over again. This is one reason why I most often always come down on the side of the authors and uploaders in these things. Also, I'll remember the uploaded files thread (or try to anyway) and try to get my posts in the right forums but unless I come right out and say differently, you can usually assume that I understand the problem is with me and not the mod and I'm only looking for answers. This one didn't seem to have any answers, which was why I wound up here..

what? I was just agreeing with purrtime about rolling back and I never posted anything on this subject until last night when I first read it ... looking back at your mod page I never even posted in it nor did I know that you were the author ... I mean no disrespect whatsoever. I simply remembered that I tried using the updated version it & didn't work so I rolled it back to the original one that did work then moved on.

alienzerox: Well it seemed like that was directed and Hendricks and I... apologies if I got upset then,as I said it was late and I was tired.

 

I'm also interested in any problems or bug reports with the tool, I want to keep it functioning for everyone. If it doesn't work for you I would like to know about it and try to understand why, I care about what I do. The changes were very minimal so if it doesn't work for you I'm puzzled as to why.
