DampNinja117
Use the music from doom 3 and some of the noises. As a signal of enemies comign make the music fade out and then you hear the fottspets of your enemies. Make mosnters come out of least expected places scuh as a hole in the roof or coming under the stairs. Also put a lot of blood and put random chainsaw noises and screams. Make a light flicker and when the light flickers an enemy pops up then dissapears after the next flicker. Use pentagrams and other evil stuff. Show other people dead like with spikes through them pinned to a wall.
hellchosen
that sounds good but on that dont overuse the dead body thing players will at some point get used to seeing dead body and no what to expect unless the bodys are placed randomly each time you enter a new area <_<

TheMagician
Horror tends to work better when it's unexpected. If I'm walking through a crypt, I expect to find corpses, so there is nothing inherently disturbing about them. (They might be disgusting, but they're not really horrific.) If I'm walking through a parking lot and happen to notice a three-week old corpse in a parked car, I'm much more likely to be disturbed by it. The same goes for sound effects. A blood curdling scream on a battlefield is par for the course; the same scream in a park on a Sunday afternoon is chilling. Of course, you can err by going too far and end up with something which is silly instead of horrifying. The point is to always try to incorporate some element of surprise. It doesn't have to be loud and flashy, just out of place.
isgod101
spiders http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c163/Sumerluv024/Valora%20Creatures/Evil%20Creatures/Spider_Demon.jpg AHHH!lul... laugh up? loud darknessrunning down a dark cramped corridor all by yourself. all you hear is a pipe dripping and you footsteps. you cant see anything but a very dim light at the end of the hall. suddenly a black shadow darts across you fov. you want to escape but cant. the door you entered is now locked. you get closer and closer to the light and start to hear very feint (or faint?) breathing...fill in the gap... The fear of not being able to load a previous save! Terrifying!
