The City

Beat Poetry by Quetzl "Cool" Tanango

The City swallows them in the morning and regurgitates them again in the evening.

Seawater, ebbing in and out of a gray scar. Beaches are created, but so are whales beached.

Like some aging porn starlet's calloused *censored*, it has taken and taken. It can no longer feel, and is unaware.

The habit that comes with repetition and the memory of sensation are indistinguishable from actual feeling.

The Robots enter the black box and exit unchanged.

Even the dullest of the machines will question the purpose of the process that changes nothing.

The sharpest will conclude that the purpose is to keep things the same.

Vibrance and Violence, rainbows and shades of brown, are different sides of a two-headed coin.

The City eats its children, then mourns its weight gain and lack of company.

Best read out loud after smoking 10 cigarettes. While playing bongos. Naked. And high.

This had a very grungy, techno feel and image in my mind, painting the city as a deplorable place. Well done! Thank you for posting!

A l'instant même...

...

Just when...

Just when near the fountain I've meet her,

The cascade around stay frozen in place.

Just when our eyes met upset together,

The birds have stopped to sing in place.

And the Time itself has stopped a wee,

So my heart could beat to seize the day...

...

[EDIT]

... a (humble) comment I made for a picture of Sinbloods' character "Celia Azilis", he's a French artist and the first friend I met here on Nexus. I've tried to translate to the best I can, I'm a French native, please forgive me. The theme here is about the french word "instant" (point in time), and sometimes, rythm, words and structure are not the same when translated - my bad...

A wonderful and very concise depiction of the way time seems to stop when two destined lovers meet for the first time. I LOVE it! Great writing. Thank you for taking the time to visit my garden, Fifoo.

Scarlet stains the soul

at your feet they'll lie

while hands are red with life

naked before the sun's burning eye

breath's been lost and

love has drowned

in the pools of unceasing woe

at the heartless caress of the young

trying to become something disallowed

missed compassion in the kiss

as dominated by repression

imposed on form disallowed

hearts though tremble with mirth

lacking poise but possessing

grace at the first

I just started typing and this is what came out. I'm not exactly sure you could even call it poetry.

I dreamed that actually. I don't know what I ate. Perhaps it was an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of underdone potato.

Velvet 'gainst velvet,

Silk 'gainst silk.

Softness wrapped in softness,

Warmth wrapped in warmth.

This is the essence of love.

Two hearts meet,

Drawing two bodies together,

Each heart blind to the physical,

Seeing only the heart for which she yearns.

This is the essence of love.

Two souls intertwined,

Ne'er to willingly part;

Two lives becoming one,

To fulfill all their mortal days.

This is the essence of love.

That's beautiful Herculine, really. It's very touching. A lot of poetry does not get through me, but this did.

Makes me feel warm, yet sad. I had a lady I loved, so I miss this, but what you wrote here is true. I felt moved, please keep writeing :)

Thanks so very much. I hope you find someone to share those feelings with again. I know what that's like.

This is not the work of myself but that of a very close friend of mine, and I hope it has a place here.

-edit- (The story of the song is based on a (LARP) event me and Mark went to.)

Those of you who know the song it is sung in the melody and tune of "Over the hills" (The version used in the series "Sharpe")

I hope you'all enjoy it.

Many years ago there was a town

'till Ultima came and tore it down

She met a force that gave her pause

Up on the hill there stood the Wolves

Now hear the tale of Riverhythe

Where darkness came and good men tried

Standing tall they gave their lives

For Riverhythe they fought and died.

The captain fought for fathers pride

Amoung the last he was to die

He led the Wolves for one last stand

And now he rests in Akarnes hand

Now hear the tale of Riverhythe

Where darkness came and good men tried

Standing tall they gave their lives

For Riverhythe they fought and died

Young Apheron, he came to fight

With Leno magic and holy might

In the circle rests his soul

A sacrifice he made for all

Now hear the tale of Riverhythe

Where darkness came and good men tried

Standing tall they gave their lives

For Riverhythe they fought and died

The huntsman Kai was young and strong

But died inside from lovers scorn

Bow and arrow in his hand

His body rests apon the land

Now hear the tale of Riverhythe

Where darkness came and good men tried

Standing tall they gave their lives

For Riverhythe they fought and died

Less an eye and struck with plague

Sword in hand he still stood brave

William we remember you

Pure of heart so sure and true

Now hear the tale of Riverhythe

Where darkness came and good men tried

Standing tall they gave their lives

For Riverhythe they fought and died

There was a sargeant called Bastile

Whos eagle eyes watched from the hill

Righteous fury and hidden rage

A hero 'till his end of days

Now hear the tale of Riverhythe

Where darkness came and good men tried

Standing tall they gave their lives

For Riverhythe they fought and died

Corpral Nova, shield in hand

Good as any, twice the man

Foe upon foe he did slay

His blade they could not stay

Now hear the tale of Riverhythe

Where darkness came and good men tried

Standing tall they gave their lives

For Riverhythe they fought and died

The former monk, Mathew his name

Cried defiance, and still they came

Patch them up, took pain away

On the field, 'pon that glory day.

Now hear the tale of Riverhythe

Where darkness came and good men tried

Standing tall they gave their lives

For Riverhythe they fought and died

Reise in shadows he did meld

Silent, swift, deadly as hell

In our hearts you will remain

Your sacrifice was not in vain

Now hear the tale of Riverhythe

Where darkness came and good men tried

Standing tall they gave their lives

For Riverhythe they fought and died

For brothers lost we sing today

Be at rest for you we pray

All recall your deeds that day

Over the hills and far away

Now hear the tale of Riverhythe

Where darkness came and good men tried

Standing tall they gave their lives

For Riverhythe they fought and died
