DDS Save Format For Sky Textures?

I want to make a custom galaxy/nebula, but I can't get it to look right in game.

Do I save the DDS in Photoshop CS6 as a DX1 or something else? What about mipmaps?

I don't think mipmaps are supposed to be enabled, since there is no LOD for the nebula, and the default file isn't 1:1 ratio.

Not sure about the skies specifically, but I use DXT5 for all my other textures and it's worked so far.

Also, maybe I'm being a noob, but I don't see how generating mipmaps could possibly hurt anything.
