ImNotCrazy44
**OOPS** I meant for topic to say "but i dont want the game to be altered TOO MUCH" Martigen's Monster Mod-Will all of the preexisting monsters still be there? I dont want to replace what is there already...but some of these monsters are awesome....like the mod making some ogers HUGE and the fact that ghosts can do that thing from the movies where they scream and fly though you, knocking you down. Dragon invasion 2 looked really good as well. Since it adds new spells, will it conflict with midas magic?? Oh and the file description talks about having quest pop ups turned on...I dont think i turned them off...i didnt know you could. How can I be sure they ARE infact enabled? Since it adds new spells, will it conflict with midas magic would depend on your load order as last mod loaded has presidense over those loaded ahead of it. MMM is awesome, been using it for over two years, made the game so much better to play.Midas magic is cool, but as I said load order will be a definate issue
ImNotCrazy44
I never really understood what this whole load order thing means...I have OBMM but use it as an upgraded version of "data files" when you start up oblivion...I think im gonna get MMM and at least for now, leave the dragon one out. Will i still have load order issues to worry about?
octavius243
To get a good load order, use BOSS.
ImNotCrazy44
Thanks. I'll get that, though I still dont understand all this "load order" stuff. I get that you need an order to how mods are loaded into the game...I just dont understand the reason for needing one and if i'll need one with out the dragon mod. My computer said there was some sort of error and then there were 2 posts... Alright so i merged the folders. Next the says to use OBMM "and use its inbuilt "Archive Invalidation" function.orCopy the file named ArchiveInvalidation.txt I've provided into your Oblivion root directory (eg. C:\Program Files\Oblivion). If you already have a file called archiveinvalidation.txt just copy the lines from the one provided and append it to your current file using notepad or similar."I copied the "archive Invalidation" file to my directory but the mod is not taking effect and there is no pluging i can check off. I have and tried to use OBMM for this. I found the Archive Invalidation utility but cant figure out (even with the help feature) what to do with it to use the mod. Any suggestions? Maigrets
Load order is important when using mods because depending on which ones you use some can override the changes made by others. The mod loaded last takes priority, so if you have two mods that change similar things the one loaded last will make those changes. One of it's functions is a Conflict Detector, but it's now known that conflicts are mostly not conflicts, but just a notification that changes have been made to areas of the game. People get tied up in knots when they read about conflicts, so don't worry about them too much. Unless the mod is "dirty" (edits areas of the vanilla game unintentionally) most can be ignored. However, that is where load order comes into play. You use OBMM to move mods up and down the list to make use of this function. You can also use Wrye Bash and BOSS as suggested, however BOSS is not infallible and many mods are not in it's database so have to be manually sorted. Archive Invalidation is used so the game will use new textures added by mods. This is detailed in OBMM's readme info as well and how to use it. Which mod are you trying to get working? If it's MMM it doesn't have an archive invalidation text with it. Use OBMM's Archive Invalidation function (read the info file) or download the OMOD version which will make installation much easier for you.Read thoroughly through MMM's documentation. It's all explained there about load orders and what all the plugins do. An OMOD is a compressed format containing all files and often you are given choices as you install depending on what the mod does. MMM does this if you are using other overhauls with it, for example OOO (Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul). If mods aren't showing up in the launcher or in game make sure your game is patched to the latest for either Oblivion or Shivering Isles. If you have SI, DO NOT install the Oblivion only patch.
ImNotCrazy44
gahhh sorry. My brain has been all over the place what with starting college this year. I posted in the wrong topic of mine. When I started talking about merged folders in my last post, i meant to post here http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=151654 I had been asking about the Elven Map Redux mod. Thanks for the info on load orders it's a bit clearer now. I do still need help with the map mod though.
