Sharkull
Can anyone point me in the right direction for what I need to change to remove the grey fog seen in some dungeons (and the orange fog in some oblivion caves)? My video card stutters when in such environments so I'm hoping there is an ini setting, or a global setting somewhere that I can change (vs. region by region editing... which I'm not likely to do). Thanks in advance for any tips.:)

Did you check if this was togable in the Graphic Menu Setting in game ?
Kamoba
Did you know I wanted a dungeon darker mod? thanks! :)
Sharkull
I was beginning to wonder if I was going to get any answers. :) I've checked all the game's settings and couldn't find anything related to environmental fog. COBL's readme mentions an Nvidia fog fix, but my card is ATI. :\ I might check it out anyways. I've downloaded "Let there be Darkness" and will take a peek inside to see if there's anything in there that will help me. Thanks again. Aside: I've removed all the cob webs (replaced with all alpha textures) which helps quite a bit in some areas.
David Brasher
I don't think there is usually environmental fog in interior cells, although you could have an interior cell which simulated outdoor weather. That weather could be fog, but I don't remember ever finding such a place. There are static objects such as FXMistGroundEffect01, which are clouds in dungeons. Look under Static\Dungeons\Misc\FX. If those are causing lag and stutter on your machine, maybe you could make a mod using a different model to turn them into something else every time they occur in the game-world. Sharkull
Good suggestion... but I was already on that track (after looking at the Let there be Darkness mod). It modifies (among other things) the meshes for a number of \Dungeons\Misc\FX\ effects. Using the modded nif's didn't work for me so I downloaded NIFScope so I could look inside the meshes and then... Success! I found the texture I needed to find. After blanking it (all alpha), all the offending fog disappeared within the dungeons. :) I don't know yet just how much this will help, or if any other things will be affected by this change, but so far so good. Thanks again for all the posts with ideas. For those interested, it is textures\dungeons\misc\atmospherecloud01.dds(Note: the web textures mentioned above are in the same folder...). Thanks for very useful info. I didn't know Darkness had been updated. Using All Natural - Real Lights and an earlier version of Let there be Darkness I was not very happy about the glary fxmistgroundeffect01.nif so I just deleted all references to it in my game. Hopefully the LtbD version is more subtle.
CloudLevi
You can remove fog by downloading the Oblivion Construction Set (free from the Bethezda website or from TESNexus; use Bethezda if you do not have a premium account on Nexus, as they provide download resuming and multiple connections offered by download managers such as Free Download Manager [colorful name, eh? ...right]) Check out the official tutorials, but keep these rules in mind since they're what I had trouble with:---1.) "Data" in the file menu is the same as "Load". Only select a file as "Active" if that's what you want to actually modify (something you don't want to do just yet). Otherwise, select them just like you would select a mod for gameplay when you start the game itself. 2.) Left click to drag along X and Y axes (forward, backward, left, and right.), hold Z to raise or lower objects and S to scale them (all while clicking, of course) 3.) Click + drag objects from the list into the render window to add OR select an object in the render window and press DELETE on the keyboard to remove it. This is what you're looking to do. To remove fog - as it is a physical mesh within the game and not simply a block of programming - you go to its location in the Construction Set and remove it by hand. You can do this all at once or as you go (save when you get to a bad place, then open the editor and clean the place up.). You can delete objects entirely from their list BUT THIS MAY CAUSE PROBLEMS. I haven't tried this at all yet so use discretion and ask around about it (unless someone posts the answer here...I thank anyone who does). --Hope this helps, ~Cloud
Sharkull
Thanks CloudLevi, but I'm not looking to edit the fog out object by object, region by region. Update:I've noticed some stuttering in places I never did before (in rain? near a fire...?). I'm thinking I might have to undo the change because this might be worse.
