ecksile
Just a glimpse at my 3rd model ever and newest creation. 9-10+ Hours now i think. VSS isn't mine only the Night Vision Scope. What you think? Still have to finish up the Eye Rubber and Mounting Bracket. Then I will attempt the dread full UV Map and texture. It will be my second for both o_O. Hope to at least be done with UV Map 2m. baduk
It looks really neat! I never tried making a uv map for such a high poly model tho.My suggestion would be to make a lower poly version and use that for the ingame model. and you can use that one to bake a normal map to get all the neat details in. That way it would be easier to get a simple uv map for nice texturing and you can get better performance.
Skree000
i dont think its that high poly at all, looks fine to me. the curvature is due to the smoothing groups being a bit strange. Ecksile to remove the 'bulgy-ness' of the cylindrical parts and make it look more like regular cylinders, select all your polygons and adjust your edge smoothing tolerance to something like 50 degrees. Looks great man. (although its missing the viewfinder isnt it?) cool model :)
overload1977
looks nice but hows its going to look in game , it may take up half the screen .........

ecksile
yea its gonna be kinda big ingame but your supposed to look through it not at it xP. I did most of the model clean up as i went along with the building so there aren't many triangles just a lot of rectangles. If i hadn't then the smoothing woulda looked triangularly. UPDATE PHOTO GOT THE EYE PIECE DONE. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n298/outlaw_027/blender2009-09-1717-43-03-43.png
Skree000
looking good man.a bit of critique , select all polies except the rubberized curvy part and tweak the smoothing groups on the cylindrical bits, set smoothing angle tolerance to 40 degrees or so. (or do it manually) that will fix the 'bulgy-ness' effect you are getting on the cylinders.
ecksile
I made an attempt at something like that but it didn't seem to make a difference. I think its just the lighting from blender beacuse it changes at different angles. I'm still pretty new with blender i know some basics...I made that whole mesh off of just what i learned from porting models lol. Subdivide/making Faces and Merging. Prolly why its taken me so long. I'm pretty pleased with the results. Although I'm having a bit of trouble on the final piece which is the mount, because theres a lot of strange shapes. But i should be done with the full model by tonight.
baduk
Its good to see another person who is just getting into this blendering stuff like me. I am looking forward to downloading your mods! I found some really super useful scripts that you might be interested in. especially the geom tool and the uv tool. http://www.hybird.org/~guiea_7/
ecksile
Ive actually been using blender for about a year but all I've ever done was just port models and made a mask for oblivion. I would normally just edit and perfect models never made my own from scratch. Since Fallout and the porting I've actually wanted to add some things that I've never seen made before. Thank you for the support though guys. Ill take a looksie at those scrtipt's baduk thank you.
