New Monitor Advice

Recommended Posts

Just thought I would report back. I've been using the new monitor for the last two days and I'm pleased as punch! I like the size of the screen, the richness of the color and the overall quality of the displayed image. So glad you convinced me about a matte finish as well, much better for gaming. About the only negative I can think of is a lack of HDMI ports, which it doesn't need, I just like the connector better than DVI. The base is fixed which isn't a bad thing unless you absolutely need your monitor to be adjustable. I plan on getting a desk mounted VESA mount in the future so I can swing it out of the way when I need my iMac. Speaking of which, the iMac screen is nicer, deeper, richer in color but this Acer isn't a slouch. There are no dead pixels... yet. Overall I'm really pleased. One day after I made the purchase NewEgg had another $20 instant rebate, just missed the deal.

Thanks FMod and Rennn!

Yeah, Apple doesn't skimp on screens, for the most part. The display part of iMac 27 is easily worth $600 alone, it's a high-res 8-bit IPS with 375 cd/m^2. Too bad they don't put a DVI input on it with an option to switch between that and internal hardware.

Anyway, glad you weren't disappointed. HDMI has licensing costs, Acer can only offer the price they do by cutting everything that isn't necessary; fortunately they prefer feature diet to build quality compromises, so the devices aren't glitchy, just plain.
