frogglesmash Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I was thinking of making a mod that would add few brand new creatures and I was wondering if this would be an unreasonable first project for someone with next to no mod experience. My mod will probably have:New texturesNew/tweaked behavioursEdited MeshesNew animations I was also wondering what tutorials/resources I should look at and what tools I would need before I start making my mod.
jet4571 Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) Ambitious for next to no mod experience. Are you familiar with 3d modeling and in particular character modeling and animation where you have to paint vertice weights so the animations work correctly? Are you familiar with working on animations themselves? If yes to those 2 then it shouldn't be too big of a first project. If you are not familiar with those then I suggest starting with a far simpler goal and learn how things work in the game. Bows and jewelry meshes are good for learning how to do vertice weights to work with animations, then after you are comfortable with those then making new clothing or armor. After clothing and armor making a new creature isn't too much of a step up but you will need to learn to make a new race for the creatures. During that process you can learn how to create animations, there's a few tutorials out there specifically for Skyrim and thousands of basic ones via a google search. Tools you will need? CK, NifSkope, Tes5edit for sure. then a choice of 3ds Max or Blender and Photoshop or PaintShop Pro or The Gimp. Edited March 21, 2014 by jet4571
