Geck not saving data properly

So as the title says the geck isn't saving data right i'm editing weapon mods so they fit better into my game because of mods that change damage and i'm trying to better scale the weapons obviously a 9mm pistol shouldn't do around the same amount of damage as an M4. Regardless upon editing the guns or making a new one all the mods that could be applied suddenly get removed as being usable by the weapon, as in in the geck on the mod's tab the item mod slots all read none when they should have say a scope, a laser sight and silencer. I can still see the effects those items would have given but upon saving and closing the geck it doesn't save what would apply that effect. It also did this recently when I was editing another mod but instead of weapon mods it was doing this for the gun's firing sound effects and made it so no sound effect was played when the gun was fired. I've never seen either version of the geck do this sort of thing and the same goes for the creation kit for skyrim. I'm assuming my geck has royally f*#@ed up somehow and i'll likely need to redownload it but just what in the heck could cause this to happpen?
