Lincoln's Repeater

Warning!! Nerd alert!

I'm sure that somebodies has already mentioned this since the game came out a while ago but I just noticed that Lincoln's repeater is modeled after a civil war era 1850-1866 Henry Rifle. Historically the repeating rifle given to Abraham Lincoln was a Spencer Rifle given to him by it's creator Christopher Spencer in order to convince Lincoln into producing the rifle for service in the union army.

Now whether Lincoln's repeater is the famous historical rifle that Spencer challenged Lincoln to a shooting match with (on the grounds of the Lincoln memorial) or is it a Henry Rifle that Lincoln owned for his own personal use? Could this be a historically inaccurate on Bethesda's part due to lack of research or did they choose the Henry model because it looks way cooler than the Spencer? Either way it doesn't stop the Lincoln's repeater being the best gun in the game! (in my opinion)

I'd say it's historical inaccurate due to nobody at Bethesda giving a damn, or having the time to do so. You can also just "explain it away" by considering that Fallout's history is a little different then ours. Do Abraham Washington's quests, for some good laughs in this regard.

you could but supposedly Fallout's timeline differs after end of ww2 and in the early fifties. Up to that point it's supposed to be our history. (except for in 1697 when adndrew endicott was captured by aliens). I just wanted my historical rant that was all. I don't really care what model is used all I care for is that it's awesome!!! and it most definately is.

Actually, I just read a magazine article concerning Lincoln's involvement in selecting new weapons for the Army, and it included a few pictures of the actual gun the in-game Repeater was based off of- a Henry rifle presented to Lincoln by Winchester. The first few demo Henry rifles were, unfortunately, defective, so Lincoln pressed for the adoption of the Spencer instead after the famous shoot-off. The actual Henry rifle given to Lincoln looks almost identical to the gun in Fallout 3. It's pretty obvious that the in-game weapon was inspired by it, although the real rifle would not have been able to fire .44 Magnum as that particular cartridge didn't exist when it was made. The historical gun was chambered for a .44 caliber rimfire cartridge (whereas the later .44 Special and .44 Magnum chamberings are both centerfire). ;)

As far as functional weapons go, This one is the nearest thing I can find to a real-world analog to the Fallout 3 gun. It's got the same chambering as the in-game rifle, and was also inspired by the Lincoln rifle.
