Is there any other way to fix this?

I used BOSS, Wrye's brush, and even Obmm to set my load order. But the game load screen shows the data files in alphabet order and it always crashes back to desktop. I don't even get to see the main screen unless I uncheck the mods that are all in front of the Oblivion.esm. I don't get how it won't load. I used all the same mods long ago and it loaded just fine [sadly I had to reformat my PC], but it drives me crazy.

You can either start the game from OBMM or Wrye Bash, you don't need to run the default Oblivion load launcher.

OBMM has a Luanch Oblivion button on the right side while Wrye Bash has a tiny Oblivion icon on the bottom that you can click to launch the game.

Many mods Require the latest patch, OBSE or both. Make sure you have them.

There should be NO mods ahead of the Oblivion.esm. It MUST be the first thing in the load order. Oblivion.esm is what the mods modify, so it must be there to modify when a mod loads.

 

BOSS is not perfect. It does not recognize all mods and it sets the mods as best it can based on what you give it to work with. It also dosn't tell if you need something else to run, such as a patch or OBSE or another mod. Not all mods will be compatible, even if the load order is optimized. And you still need to start Oblivion with OBSE if it is required by even one mod.

 

The mod order shown in the game data list is not in load order. So don't worry about it.

 

My preferred method is to use BOSS first, then use Wrye Bash to merge (bash patch), then use OBMM to manually order anything that BOSS didn't know what to do with.

 

Then always use the launcher built into OBMM to start the game - it automatically starts OBSE first - IF it is installed. AND, it uses the load order shown in the OBMM.

I tried all of that and it still seems to want to fail at the start. I don't know what is wrong with the GOTY version of the game. Could there be a problem with the game in some way where it won't play on a PC?

 

Everything is updated, I don't have any virtual drives on the PC nor do I have another disc drive. So what would be the cause of the failure?

 

Never mind. I found out the problem. It seems that one of the bathtub mods I had there were conflicting with the others. Once I turned it off, it ran well. Thanks for all your help though. :thanks:
