You could even make an army of slaves using SCC (sharing & caring companions). Just make yourself a slew of npc's and place them in the game world, then run around using them to take a bullet for you. Using SCC would give you a lot more options anyway I think, allowing you to customize each slave exactly the way you want them as far as appearance, behavior and equipment. You could make them all fanatically loyal to you charging recklessly into the jaws of certain death, or you could make them the perfect example of extreme cowardice. It's all in how you set up their agression and personality types in GECK. SCC also comes with a great tutorial that will teach you much about GECK, not only how to make an NPC, but factions, classes, unique equipment and everything you'll need to build your own army.
