Another Gimp image I made

Critique:

If the eyes were really glowing, there would be an emissive light that originates at the eye ports, right now it just does not look right.

The values in the picture are all very much the same, the foreground does not stick out from the background, it all appears very washed out.

The lighting needs works, that dull gray overcast you took this picture in does not do it justice

Get rid of the health bars, compass, and HUD all together (type 'tm' in console without quotes)

It says right under the first image, that it was meant to have the HUD.

And all the other stuff you said, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I'VE EVER TRIED THIS!!

Why don't you do all that stuff, if you really hate the image that much.

Alright since you dont know the definition of critique, let me get it for you:

A critical review or commentary, especially one dealing with works of art or literature.

In other words, I was only trying to help you, the pointers I made are what I honestly think would perfect the image and really make it something. But since you are one of the unfortunate ones who cannot handle it, you will never get better.

Do an image like this myself? I have, here you go, this image has been #1 on the top 25 for the maximum span of 2 weeks:

Feel free to browse my other images, if you will, most of them have been edited using Photoshop CS3.

This type of whining is exactly why I stopped frequenting these forums quite a while back.

Heaven forbid someone try to give anyone here honest criticism on their precious Oblivion screen shots or someone doesn't think one of the many overrated characters here is attractive.

He was helping you. I pray you never attend an art school if you're going to have such a juvenile attitude .... that can be said about a lot of people here.

duh13, as has been said before, you have been given a critique, which is not to be confused with criticism.

We're telling you ways to improve the work. Video game modding naturally draws people who are visual artists. Present a picture to them, and they will look at it with practiced and developed eyes.

Sakura's post that you responded angrily towards, was some really awesome advice. It's the kind of advice that is given all the time in art schools, both fine art and technical art like what you're doing in Gimp. As someone who attended digital art school for over two years and has a degree in Visual Effects, I can tell you that Sakura in no way meant anything to be derisive. I can promise you that. When someone says something like, "The background is washed out", they imagine you will then go into Gimp and make the necessary adjustments, and in the process you might learn something about art and how pictures are assembled. Nobody expects it to be perfect first time. There is practically a science in creating good visual compositions.

In other words, we're just trying to help. Since you took the time to make the eyes look a certain way, and took the time to blur the hand, and took the time make blood, it can be pretty safe to assume you want this to be more than just a simple screen shot of a video game. If you followed Sakura's advice it would look really cool.

You need to be able to accept comments like this and not assume it was an attack on your art. Nobody is saying it doesn't look good now. It looks great. It's an awesome action shot that conveys movement and emotion. What we're talking about is icing on the cake that will make it look even better, not the bare minimum to be good.

It's your art. Do what you want with it. Just don't assume people are out to get you.

Worded a lot better then I ever would have managed.

I know what a critique is!

I am sorry if I made that comment sound rude, I was trying to say that I suck at it, and you would probably do much better.

Having that attitude will only prove to be a roadblock to improving. EVERYONE "sucks" when they first start at something. Even the people who seem awesome at something are always improving and at one point, they didn't know what they were doing at all.

Just keep on asking for advice and taking suggestions, and you'll constantly improve as long as you have an open mind. It might get frustrating, but in the end, the work pays off. Trust me.

I wish more people around this community would have this attitude. This is very well-worded and helpful, nicely said.
