Construction Set freezes when editing AI Packages

I searched for a while but only found one topic where someone else had the same problem and the person wasn't thorough about the problem so people thought it was just a mod of his. I uninstalled oblivion, uninstalled the construction set, installed oblivion, patched it, installed the construction set and before doing anything else, opened up the construction set, didn't even open up the package (it does this no matter what packages I load anyway). I go to Characters>Packages..., right click somewhere, create a new package, click OK and back in the "Packages" dialogue I attempt to click anywhere in the box, the program will freeze and my computer will bring up the infamous "This program is not responding" message box. :wallbash: In short, if there are no packages it doesn't have a problem, the moment there is a package and I try clicking on one (I can scroll through the list via the scroll bar as long as I don't click inside the browsing box), it freezes and closes, doesn't even give me the option of waiting for it to respond.

I'm using vistax64 so thought that could be the problem, my UAC is disabled (installed oblivion and cs as admin as well just to be sure {does that even change anything when the UAC is disabled?}), tried compatibility for XP SP2, disabled visual themes and desktop composition. No luck, still does it.

Vista x64//Intel Pentium Dual Core CPU E2220 @ 2.4GHz//4.00GB DDR2 Ram//9800GSO NVidia w/ 768mb DDR3

I hope that was thorough enough of a description ;P. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Sounds to me like it's a hardware issue... I'm no good at solving those.

Thanks!

Vista hates TES CS. Vista is a problem. But it sounds like you have already addressed that problem with disabling UAC and telling the computer that you are the System Administrator.

The question I have is this: Did your attempt to outwit Vista work? Can you use the CS and create mods that do not involve AI editing? From what you have posted, I don't know if the CS is entirely inoperative for all functions, or only when you change AI packages.

I used a different approach to get past Vista. I put Oblivion in C: Games\Oblivion. I did not do the things you did. I can use the CS to mod, and it works as well as can be expected. (It is an unstable program full of glitches. Save often.)

Editing AI Packages and adding them is an unstable crash-point. I have had many crashes there, but nothing like what you describe. I would estimate that it crashes about 5% of the time I do it. That means I can use it just fine 95% of the time.

I wish I could be more helpful.

Good luck on your problem!

Thanks for the reply. You're right, I should have specified, this is the only point when using CS that the editor will crash for no reason and 100% of the time. Other then the problem I'm having CS hardly ever crashes randomly. I just gave up with the AI editing for now, but I would like to figure this out >.>. Heh, I guess I can go use my XP computer...

Thanks again.

Having the same problem here! On Windows 7 x64. The CK runs oK (mostly stable) but if I just click on any AI package entry ... kazoom ... hanging! I wish this could be fixed somehow, I don't want to install the whole game and CK on a Virtual Machine with XP just for editing. Btw this problem did not happen for me on XP or Vista. Might be indeed because of the 64bit OS.
