Runestone Village problem

I would like a little help on solving a problem with this mod. Two people have now reported that it crashes their game, and I feel that problem needs to be solved quickly, or I will remove the file entirely. Others report no problems at all, and have been able to enjoy the mod as intended.

Runestone Village only adds a village and a player home. It is built using only vanilla Oblivion. No shivering Isles and no involvement from other mods. There is also some info regarding the problem on the file's comments page. Take a look, problem solvers...

I paste what one of my mod-testers said about it. This particular player deserves the Pour le Mérite for his kindness in describing in detail the problem. Hm, it crashes when I enter any exterior-world ..Also with my clean-save, that uses no mods all. However it got SI loaded, that may be the troublemaker. I used PCB and a few days of waiting and I was able to access a worldspace in general. While fast-traveling to weynon priory gives me a CTD again smile.gif..I'll try it on a non-SI pc. Cleaning it out didn't help.. He later tested it without Shivering Isles and encountered the same problems.

Hm, well if others have it..we could do a little extensive analysis. As if it are just a few, there is no reason to turn in down. To start..I don't run any mods that aren't mine or don't involve the mods I'm creating.

The interesting thing I found is that when I used PCB. PurgeCellBuffers. I was able to go to a worldspace.

Not yet to another one (Chorrol), still it brought me one step further. I removed the influence from the scripts, so it isn't that one either. Now I looked inside CS, it gave me two errors.

To help you in general/advice. Always clean your mod. I already did without success, but it is a good thing to do in general.

As "The abandoned mine" as some other cells are modified and you've changed an original (clothing)cupboard and a light.

Here are the 2 errors.

Removing the shrub didn't help. I'll check the package now.

I cleaned it in Tes4Gecko, but have since learned that that particular program is no good for cleaning mods. Which reliable one do you recommend? I did some minor modding for Morrowind too, and there I learned the importance of cleaning them out. Overall, I thought Morrowind modding was far more rewarding and easier than OB-modding. But I'm not going to give up that easily with OB. This is actually my first mod for Oblivion. So you live and learn.

Yes. I knew there was something with Abandoned Mine. I thought Tes4Gecko cleaned that out, but obviously not.

I think the crashing error people had was as simple as my sound files being placed in the wrong directory. I changed that to the correct directory with Version 1.1 download. But I'm not sure really. Why would missing sound files create crashes? I'd rather think the game should be just silent or something, or as in my case - the text just flying past, because these were just the simple silent soud files that you have to create for dialogue topics to show up...

By the way, Pronam, again, thank you kindly, for all your help! I'll add your name to a thank you note in the Read Me in the final and completely done and working version of Runestone Village. :)

I could send you a 'cleaned' version if you want to. I use Tes4edit for the cleaning as I'm not sure what the one from tes4gecko does. If you know how tes4edit works, you can easily spot problems and either change them in there or in CS later.

If you type 'cleaning' at the cs wiki search, you should get where you need to be.

hehe, morrowind was far easier..you could move any object instead of using animations (or OBSE).

I'll check out your new version and see if that was it...some bugs have ..strange connections.

Yeah. Thanks. I'd be most interested in trying your cleaned out version.

Tes4Edit, eh? I'll download that at once. Hope the mod works as it should now then...

And yes. I liked Morrowind modding so much more. Dialogue wasn't any problems in MW either. As in OB you have to create those blasted silent sound files, and those are probably the ones that have caused the problems too.
