Sound is screwed up with dual channel memory enabled

First off, let me say once again how much I love TES. Quite a bit.

New problem, never before had any issue with oblivion until now, I'm using a mb and cpu (p4) that has dual channel memory support. Well, here's the problem...if I mix up the ram sticks so that I'm running on single channel at 400 mhz I can run the game in 5.1 or ac3 decode and all the sounds are where they should be. I'm using a creative 5.1 platinum sound with live drive front panel etc. Been using that for years no problems. Latest drivers all that for everything. I mean I know a lil sumptin sumptin but not this....if I arrange the ram sticks so that the mb/cpu will run dual channel (2x1gb,2x512 gb crucial) or just (2x1gb) the game produces all kinds off racket and pops and grrrr and wahhhh random noise with sound hardware acceleration on full. I have to dial back hardware accel 2 notches to get the racket to stop but then the game is only playable in stereo. Only oblivion...Why?
