Sorry if i have posted this in the wrong area.

Hi all, well i am finally gonna buy Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion Game of the Year, first do the mods support just oblivion or are they aimed mainly at the add on`s, and how would i install any of the downloads, as i am mainly on the fallout3nexus and have only just started to look into oblivion.

and i use the FOMM to install on fallout 3.

Any advice given would be really helpful.

I have a set of help files for people who are not computer geeks and are new to mods. They include downloading, extracting (unzipping) installing and activating mods. I have included a simple mod to practice on and instructions for installing and using 7-zip. If you are interested, click on the highlighted link below to be taken to the site where they are kept. I recommend starting with #1 and working your way through them.

If you use them I would appreciate some feedback as to what needs improvement and what works for you.

The above tutorials will be very helpful.

I'll take this time to recommend some mods.

First, Darker Nights and Darker Dungeons. It's not realistic at all without these mods. If you get them, you will also want Dungeon Actors have Torches and Exterior Actors have Torches. Another very nice set of mods (more complicated installs because of a shaky development history, but well worth it to take the time researching it) are the Illumination Within mods that make windows lit up at night. You will shake your head in wonder at how Bethesda didn't have something like this in the actual game.

Second, Reneer's Guard Overhaul and Merchants Buy Stolen Goods. The game's guards are like 1984 Thought Police. They know you stole something on the other side of the world, and the merchants can automatically tell that your items are stolen. You can practically see the finger wagging. "Now now, just because there's a Thieves Guild doesn't mean you should go around stealing. That's bad. M'kay?"

Third, little things like Natural Water so you can see more than two feet ahead underwater (funny you could see all the way down from above...), Denock Arrows so you can actually decide to cancel a bowshot and not waste an enchanted arrow (or a regular one), No Quest Items so you can get rid of quest reward items you don't like and are taking up weight in your inventory, Improved No Crosshair (doesn't get rid of it entirely) and 3rd Person Animation in First Person View so your First Person View doesn't feel like you're editing the game rather than playing it (the First Person View is really really bad), Hand to Hand Idle Replacer so your old man or finely dressed woman aren't putting up their dukes like an Irish boxer in the menu screen, No Rainment Ring so you can wear whatever you want in the Arena (the Arena Rainment is okay, but it gets really old fast), and last but not least Simsarmy's Scholar Dialogue so people don't keep calling you Apprentice even after you own the Mage's Guild.

Hope this list helps. Oblivion is really awesome if you do your homework about which mods you want. There are so many dumb-ass face-palm I-can't-believe-they-actually-programmed-it-like-this moments in the game.

Sometimes I want to reach back in time and shake some sense into Bethesda. You have to save this game from itself. It's worth the extra effort.

Just popped over to the site on the link you gave in your recent reply, and i will say very easy to read and understand.

I am also pleased to see that no install manager has to be used unlike fallout3, so i will give credit excellent site and 100% on the ease of use... with a simple by simple instructions how to use the files is so much easier then all others i have seen out there......

many thanks.

P.S Just bought the game of the year edition......look forward to playing it.
