beelzerob
I've been playing Oblivion for a couple weeks now (LOVE it!), and decided to get the expansion, in the form of the Game of the Year edition. So I already have Oblivion fully patched up, and a handful of mods in place. How do I install the game of the year edition and keep everything saved and working? Do I just install it directly over my existing oblivion install, or do I have to uninstall and reinstall from scratch? And if so, will my save games still work? do I need to copy them away to safety before doing any of this? thanks!
David Brasher
If I were you, I would leave Oblivion itself alone, and just install Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine. I think it is set up so you can do that. I installed my GOTY in stages. I had been playing Oblivion for months before I installed the expansions. I know that Knights of the Nine is just a really big mod. It is not set up like Oblivion proper or Shivering Isles. I am not absolutely sure of this, but I think your mods and savegames would be untouched if you removed or reinstalled Oblivion. I am a cautious person and would want to find out for sure, or else create backups before doing that.
beelzerob
Well, the GOTY comes as a Disc1 and Disc 2, and that's all they say. so I put in Disc1, and it started up Oblivion like I was going to play it. So I explored to the DVD and started up setup.exe, and all it did was give me an option to remove Oblivion. I put in Disc2, and it came up as the install screen for Shivering Isles/Nights of the Nine. Would have been handy to know it was simply two separate install DVD's. I've installed it and so far, my game is playing just like it did before. So I guess the question is...how do I know it actually installed? Is there some place I can go to see the Shivering Isles, that wouldn't be there if I hadn't gotten the expansion? thanks for the help, by the way.
