hoddyman
This is a general question. I'm an English-speaking person, and I speak no German, but out of curiosity I had an online automatic translator translate the description of a German-language-only mod. The mod sounds interesting, and I would like to try it, but what exactly does it mean to have a different-language mod in one's game? Would the NPC's and their captions appear in German in the modded parts, or what?
Legotrash
It affects the things it changes. If a mod changes, let's say,a city but not its NPCs then the NPCs will still speak in english. Now,if a mod is not that well-made then it might be changing things it shouldn't and,if that happens, they might be in non-english as well. It's not that common but it happened to me a couple of times.
DrakeTheDragon
Most important is when the mod affects a race. Affected race will switch its language to German and the voice files for it will be missing, rendering the race mute.It doesn't seem to matter what changes are done to the race record, just touching it switches the internal language flag. That's why so many people get trouble with mute races and NPCs when using a mod not done for their game's language. Deleted3619564User
To avoid the "mute" NPC problem (after installing a mod in a different language):- open the mod CS (or CSE). Change the RACE NAME (if the mod has changed some races) MATCHING YOUR OBLIVION LANGUAGE VERSION.- ensure the same name in sound\voice\oblivion.esm
