pleasenoname
I was wondering why when I go to kill Umbra at level 2, The game crashes while in the Vindasel catacombs with her. I coc'd to the testing hall got Umbra sword and handed in the Umbra sword to Clavicus to end the quest and there was no crash. I would like to finish this without coc-ing to the testing hall and grabbing a sword though. So if anyone knows why its crashing in the catacombs with Umbra that would be much appreciated. I currently have 3 quest related followers from the vanilla game, plus 4 scamps and it crashes whether I have them wait outside or bring them inside. discovery1
it may be a spawn problem, try thisbring up the consoletype coc centerwait for 4 days and nightstype saveiniclose consolesave gamebring up map and try re - entering vindasel. if that does not work i suspect a corrupted save game. try loading an earlier save as near to the beggining of the saves you have made and see what happens. If it still happens, try unticking your mods one by one until you find the culprit. I usually untick alpabetically to narrow it down (all mods beggining with a, reset them, then b and so on.) pleasenoname
I did the procedure and unfortunately, it didn't work. I have over 700 saves. I went back to save number 4 and the game didn't crash. I do remember that I used an Elven catacomb part and inserted it into a cave for my own self made house mod. I wonder if it was Vindasel? I may have inadvertently moved Vindasel or something because it was the first mod I ever attempted making and wasn't aware of dirty edits and all that fun stuff.I used a root door from the Shivering Isles, however if I recall correctly, I deleted that because I couldn't get it to work correctly. It would open once and stay open forever. I wish there was some way to scan the save file and find the direct cause of the crashing and clean it.If there is not, I may as well mod Umbra into appearing outside Vindasel or to be safe a unique worldspace. discovery1
you can clean the save with wrye bash but it sounds like you have a corrupted save path that is a save that spawns corruption in every successive save. it can be caused by the game engines save on wait, save on travel etc. only use saves you generate yourself. also make sure this line in your ini reads as such...bsaveonexteriorswitch=
pleasenoname
I found the following in the ini: bSaveOnInteriorExteriorSwitch bSaveOnRest bSaveOnWait bSaveOnTravel I will set all of them to zero. Disabling those will remove the temptation to use the auto-saves. I'm curious as to the technical reason for the corruption. My best guess is that it is the same kind of corruption that causes the game to crash when another background process requests resources from the CPU. Perhaps a background request for resources during those kind of saves, which are also transitioning a scene calling on the CPU and writing to the hard drive, causes corruption to the save instead of an outright crash. pleasenoname
I found the cause. It was the staff of the everscamps. The poison gas trap in Vindasel kills the everscamps , they teleport to where they last died at, causing them to die again and re-teleport. It causes an endless loop that crashes the game.
