TheGamesArchive Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Hello again! only me, with about 20 problems are little to no ways of fixing them again.. if you guessed from the title I've hit problems! with both mods and game (wasn't sure which category this would fit into... but the problem does seem to technical then mod I think..) Please forgive the length of this post.. I want to ensure I covered everything in hope that the fix is generally simple..but it likely won't be! The Situation Even when I had no mods installed (not including the DLCs) I've always had slight issues with CTD and freezes, now a while ago when I posted I thought it was mostly mod related and for a little while it was sorta fixed but now.. not I'm not exactly sure.. my guess at the problem is scripts just stacking up and causes it to overload? but after reading MissJennaBees pinned post I don't believe it to be that The CTDs themselves are viciously random, like seriously random it could be fine for hours or a few days then randomly just crazy CTDs by just pressing any button, going into a new area or even pressing tab or ESC can CTD it I honestly don't get it. I did try the various methods in that post to get around the problem but alas no luck I even re read all the active mods pages just to make sure I didn't overlook anything like a missing file or compatibility patch and I'm fully sure I've got everything correctly but perhaps another set of eyes can help? Another problem I think is related to this is certain mods are behaving differently as well..especially the Dragonborn DLC which I only just got around to play..the moment I boot up a save from a previous adventure I get attacked by everyone... for no reason, no bounty everyone got nuts for me, I tried to console a bounty on myself and put a weapon away so they'd had to try and arrest me but turning myself in caused a freeze up Another example would be when I returned to skyrim to Breezehome in Whiterun, Lydias face had gone back to the Vanilla one instead of Bijin Warmaidens I would show a picture of what happened but I am unable to leave without CTDing.. Looks bad doesn't it! Could it be related to what's wrong? I honestly don't know I've tried what I do know and its not worked out... so I'm asking the good people of the nexus for assistance so I can actually finish the game!! The Computer Specs! SteamSkypeNexus Mod Manager and possibly the skyrim folder being open in case of problems this shouldn't be a problem but you never know...I usually keep everything that shouldn't need to be on off.. if that makes sense! but I don't really lose any FPS Cleaning Master and Mods files My next attempt was the master and mod files that did require cleaning, using BOSS to find out which ones did require cleaning and using a guide I cleaned them out :D for a small amount of time that did fix the problem...but now all the files are cleaned so...I'm not sure on that.... Adjusting the Load Order Now this load order is just a quick BOSS run (the one above), I have adjusted it manually following MissJennyBee's guide before and the problem still continued or another popped up IE a mod not working properly the only reason the load order is in this setup is cause it was the most stable for a short amount of time...moving around caused problems and they were in the right sort of order as well in terms of grouping and requirements (Main file then a patch next in load order) Perhaps I got it all wrong or missing something? In truth this is where I'm expecting the problem being... Memory Related CTDs This one I'm half and half that its ok... I have a lot of RAM and not many texture mods bar a few ones that add HD to several armours while I am aware that skyrim only uses a maximum of 4gbs while that can't be fixed or boosted the guide did suggest SSME or Skyrim Startup Memory Editor which is working but not fixing my CTDs (this is where I believe that the CTDs are not Memory related) although I will admit there has been a slight improvement on how it runs but stills crashes on new places I also thought it might be the large amount of textures in but even with them off the problems still continue However the section within MissJennaBee's guide "Scripts and stuff and junk" does suggest that my problem is possibly too many scripts on NPCs a lot of my mods do impose a lot of scripts on all NPCs plus with mods that add more NPCs it can be a problem... however the issues seem to be more in small spaces, like dungeons and such... it rarely happens in places with lots of people! even passing, towns and villages are generally fine... the odd CTD there but nothing really...constant the outside is somewhat bad however its not...as constant as inside a small cell! the whole thing is really strange Conflicts I do have a lot of compatibility patches for various mods so I don't think this should be a issue, however I may have skipped over a possible conflict by accident you know...common human error... for which I don't know where I'm going wrong, I imagine the load order isn't helping but again..totally unsure... Conclusion / Ending I'm a terrible mod user XD Thank you for taking the time to read this huge lengthy post on my never ending skyrim problems and I hope you lovely people can help me solve this huge lengthy problem! if any additional information is required please let me know in a post here and I'll add it accordingly Once again! thank you!!
Drax8 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 A couple of things stand out to me right off the bat. First, I can almost guarantee that some of the CTD's you are having when pushing buttons, going into inventory, maps, game menu etc. is due to Safety Load. It doesn't play nice with SkyUI. I had that exact same issue. I used to be plagued by freezes, then Safety Load came, and it eliminated my freezes (I'm talking in game complete freeze needing a ctrl-alt-del to kill the program, not ILS) but gave me random CTD's because of the conflict. Next, I suspect you have over modded what your graphics card can handle. Especially since it's a 1GB card. You will likely need to cut down your mod list, and/or start saving your pennies for an upgrade if you are dead set on modding big. I realize you do not have a huge mod list, but there are some pretty taxing mods in there (Frostfall, Wet and Cold, Footprints, Immersive Creatures, etc). All great mods, and I use them too, but if you don't have the horsepower, they will cripple your game. Now, some things to try that might help (forgive me if you mentioned these in your post, I might have missed it) are 1.) ENBoost. You don't have to run a ENB preset with this to get the benefit from ENBoost. and 2.) SSME -Skyrim Startup Memory Editor. These go hand in hand, and will replace Safety Load. Alternatively you can use the SKSE 1.7 Alpha instead of SSME, which is what I am using and works wonderfully. Hopefully this helps some, if I repeated things you already know I'm sorry, just trying to help :) Good luck!

Hello again! :P Hmm the over taxing things I do kinda agree on, however I never get any stutter when playing, very very rare when that happens so I'm assuming its handling it fine? I could be horribly wrong on that one :P but your safely load idea is a good one, I'll try out ENBoost and SKSE Alpha build as I"m using the other one 1.6 I believe? I do have SSME currently active however... will that cause a conflict? I'll cut some mods off I don't use much or see much of a improvement on, if you have any suggestions on which mods are the most taxings I'd greatly appreciate it as I'm really unsure what is consisted taxing and what isn't
Drax8 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Yes either use SKSE Alpha or SSME, not both :) Make sure you install the SKSE correctly, and you will need to add this to your SKSE.ini: [Memory]DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768ScrapHeapSizeMB=256 If you don't add this, it won't work. If you don't have an SKSE.ini, simply create one and add the lines :)

I can't just make a config file for it :P right..? XD
Drax8 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 No worries, in your Skyrim/Data folder do you have an SKSE folder? You should since you previously used Safety Load, and that's where it's plugin went. Inside the SKSE folder, right click, then select new, then create text document, rename it to SKSE.ini, and voila, you are good to go. Just copy/paste the lines I showed you above. And it's not silly at all, we all had to learn sometime :)

TheGamesArchive Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Yes leave it in the SKSE folder. Well good news and bad news... the good news is I can now run about without CTD worry! everything is running a lot smoother in that quick test, however I now have another problem... Dragonborn has this bounty gitch which requries you to punch a NPC to get arrested in order to stop it (or use console commands..) otherwise they keep attacking you... now whenever I try and turn myself in...the whole thing locks up like a freeze up... can't do anything so I have to Ctrl Alt Del out and close the process.... least no start up CTD now!
chanchan05 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 1. DO NOT use the Hi Res packs with a 1GB card if you plan on modding the game. 2. Basically remove almost all texture related mods, like the Better Dynamic Snow for example. I know it sucks, but your card doesn't have enough graphic memory, especially since you're using mods like OBIS and Immersive Patrols adding more NPCs and thus increasing strain on GPU 3. Use PureWaters for water texture, AFAIK it's the most performance friendly of all the textures. Not the best looking but most performance friendly. 4. Script Problems occur when you either force it to play at too high FPS, or your CPU is too weak.
