TheAC
This is not about how chests respawn! Cough. Now that we got that out of the way. I put items in a chest, then open the chest (less than 10 seconds later), and some of the items are gone. This is especially likely if the item I put in the chest was one that I had equipped. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks. :thanks:
Branimirzg
Just specific chest or all?
Maigrets
The only thing I can think of is you have too many items in the chest. All containers in the game have a limited encumbrance and when that is exceeded items "seem" to disappear, but are actually still there. You just can't see them in the list. One solution is to not overload your containers and the other, to get your items back, is to use "Take All" and everything in the chest will be transferred to your inventory. Obviously, you are likely to be over encumbered yourself so either do it in God Mode temporarily just to move stuff or take things out a few at a time and spread them among other containers.. You could also alter the encumbrance of specific chests etc in the Construction Set, but be careful about it. You should only do it for new chests you've created yourself. ie new ID's etc.
David Brasher
Wow! That is a pretty wild glitch! I have written scripts to make chests eat things or turn them into other things, but you probably don't have any script on your chest and you probably don't have it set to respawn. I don't know if there is a way to adjust respawn time. That would be pretty wicked if things respawned every 10 seconds. The monsters would kill us all. TheAC
Thanks,I think it's for all chests, but I'm not really sure. How would I go about altering the encumbrance of chests in the CS?
David Brasher
I am not sure how this works. This documentation talks as if containers don't really have an encumbrance and they are all already set to the very best setting. It sounds like the only solution is to modify your behavior so you don't overfill your chest and make items invisible. (Get some more chests.) ContainerFrom The Elder Scrolls Construction Set Wiki Containers hold items that can be put into an actor's inventory. Typical containers are treasure chests, sacks, and crates.[edit] Base Object Fields * ID: The Editor ID for this object. This is a unique name used to identify the container within the Construction Set * Name: This is the name displayed by the container ingame. * Script: Object script attached to the container. o Note a CTD is possible if the script has an onActivate block. * Quest Item: Marks this as a quest item. * Respawns: Determines if the inventory of the container will be cleared and reset to the original after the respawn time. * Weight: Weight limit of the container. Always set to zero. * Encumbrance: Displays the total weight of all items in the container. Leveled items cause the weight to be negative. Displayed as, for example, 12.00/0.00. The upper number is the weight of items in the container, and the bottom should remain zero to insure that there is no weight limit on the container * NIF File: 3D art used to display the container ingame * Open Sound: Sound played by the container when it's opened * Close Sound: Sound played by the container when it's closed * Preview Calculated Result: Displays a list of possible items that could be in the container when the player is at the specified level. Useful only when items in the container are leveled items * Preview Level: Player level used to calculate leveled items
lco1138
I get this from time to time, particularly with the Bag of Holding mod, and found a simple solution is to do a quicksave then immediately do a quickload. In most cases the missing items will then reappear. Occassionally it may take two or three attempts. Hope this helps :)
