First you need to download and install this two programs

Oblivion mod manager Must have

OBSE Optional....But for most of new mods you will need this

Best way to install mods is to open new folder on deskop....

extract files from archive you downloaded to that folder... (you will need 7zip and winrar)

Open folder and copy all files you have extracted to data folder...

( Esp,meshes textures,music and whatever it has)

Default- C\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\data....

when you click past it may ask you to overwrite...click yes

Now open Mod manager and activate esp, click on launch oblivion .....and that's it

If you install obse (which you should) then you are launching game with obse exe,

in mod manager just activate mods....

I hope that this helps...

OBSE is only needed if using mods that require it. Otherwise there's no need for it.

You can also make OMODs from the downloaded archives using OBMM (read the help files) to simplify installing and some mods already come in that format as a choice.

However, as fredyzg says this is the best way to install mods. Everyone should know how to manually install this way. It allows you to see what files the mods contains and the file structure. Some mods aren't packaged correctly so unzipping directly to your Data folder will cause issues.

For example..you can end up with a Data folder within your Oblivion\data folder and then the game won't be able to find the files it needs.

I have a set of help files for people who are not computer geeks and are new to mods. They include downloading, extracting (unzipping) installing and activating mods. I have included a simple mod to practice on and instructions for installing and using 7-zip. If you are interested, click on the highlighted link below to be taken to the site where they are kept. I recommend starting with #1 and working your way through them.

If you use them I would appreciate some feedback as to what needs improvement and what works for you.
