Rhiana
How do I know if OBSE is actually running/working? I downloaded a new mod last night, ran it thru OBMM, WRYE and BOSS, and everything seems fine.(KuerteesHorseCommands) The mod requires OBSE, which I have, and I have followed all the instructions for using it with my steam oblivion. My game runs fine, until I actually cast the spell for the mod, and then I completely lock up, nothing works, can't exit, and have to kill power to my computer to get out. This is the only "horse mod" I have other than the DLC HorseArmor. ideas? ThanksRhiana
Argomirr
Which version of OBSE are you using? And which version of Oblivion?
Rhiana
Thanks for the quick response. I am running the lastest versions of each, with all the patches etc. Oblivion 1.2.0.416OBSE V0017B Ive done all the official and unofficial patches for the game and the plugins. I triple checked and all the necessary OBSE files are in the oblivion directory. The steam OBSE instructions say to launch oblivion from within steam, so I have tried that, and get the same lock up when i cast the spell. I can paste in my BOSS load list if that would help. I think I am running a pretty clean game, I have been carefully installing each patch and mod and testing them as I go. Is there a way to know that the OBSE is actually running? since it doesn't have an .esp it doesn't show anywhere like OMM or Wrye etc.
Pronam
You need at least the (Oblivion) Steam build 1.2.0.416 and obse v017.You need to run the OBSE_loader in order to load the scripts. Don't use the standard launcher, OBSE will launch it for you.Just use OBMM for changing mods, you actually don't need to activate the launcher itself anymore :). Rhiana
As Far as I can see, I have 3 launch choices. 1. A short cut on my desk top that points to steam.exe -applaunch 22330 2. My "games" tab in Steam, highlight the game, click on launch 3. OBSE launcher in my oblivion folder 1 & 2 load the game just fine, everything works until i cast the horse command spell, and then i freeze. #3 gives me a pop up that says im running the steam verion and to follow the instructions in the OBSE read me, which I have done. thanks again for any help you can give me. Edit: the instructions from steam say:1) Make sure all the dll's from OBSE are in the oblivion folder, including the obse_steam_loader.dll2) Make sure you are launching from the SteamUI, not running the game exe directly3) Make sure you have the Steam in-game community enabled I have tried that. =)
Pronam
Hehe, I clearly don't have steam ;). A few quotes: Also, make sure that Steam is running, and make sure that Steam is running as the same user as you launch the obse_loader.exe. IE, don't launch one as admin and the other not.- Check the file obse_loader.log in your oblivion folder for errors. It might be worth to take it to the official forums as well.. bben46
If an active mod requires OBSE to run, and OBSE is not present. The game will crash when you attempt to start. If you remove that mod and the game works, you do not have OBSE.
Rhiana
So if my game starts and plays fine until I try to use the spell the mod added, then OBSE is working, and I have some other problem?
Pronam
Hm, I thought that I saw bben46 writing a response...Sorry if I intervene if you hit enter when you're back ;). It would be difficult to track it that way, as indeed the error only shows up with the spell. bben46 meant that you'd have to disable the mod to check if you can run it with, but this is a little exception as it doesn't crash on start. (What most OBSE-mods could cause.) Another way is this. Open the console by pressing the `-key. (key usually left from the 1 and beneath Escape) When you're in the console, type inGetOBSEVersionThis shouldn't be used this way to achieve it original effects, but it is actually quite valuable if you want to check if OBSE is enabled. IF OBSE is enabled.. The Console will not give an error.. and will just show GetOBSEVersion. (No need for capitals actually. GetOBSEVersion or getobseversion instead of it will just do the same.)http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/4778/obseok.jpgIF OBSE isn't enabled. It will give an error and it will tell it couldn't find the command.http://img2.imageshack.us/img2/1550/obsenotok.jpg
Rhiana
ok, i launched thru the SteamUI, with the mod activated, loading was extremely slow, but it worked and the game runs. when i went into console commands, a whole bunch of lines came up over and over: Unexpected token type 66 (42) encounteredError in script 1a0011f5 i entered getobseversion - nothing appears. so I went into the OBSE log, the error above appears a billion times, plus 1 other: Unexpected token type 66 (42) encounteredError in script 1A000800 the last line in the log is: OBSE deinitialize I looked in the read me's for both kuerteeshorsecommands and OBSE and neither mention these. so now i am not sure if it is a problem with OBSE or with the mod.
