Fix broken quest

3012

Recommended Posts

Hello.

It seems, that there is something messed up with my quests. I have done Oh My Papa after I was told to do so by Moore, but I refused to kill Papa Khan. But For The Republic, Part 2 does not update as it should. It stucks in the stage where I am told to visit the Khans.

I tried to set For The Republic to stage 30 (getstage delivers 20) but it does not accept any other stages than 100 (finishes the quest, Eureka starts) and 200 (quest failed). If I try to reset the quest, it is just removed from the quest log.

Then I messed around with Oh My Papa, but it doesn't matter if I finish the quest a thousand times using the console, For The Republic, Part 2 will not update. If I reset Oh My Papa, I cannot finish the quest because of missing dialogue lines.

Unfortunately I was not paying any attention and made a lot of other quests after dealing with the Khans, and all the old saves CASM did are now gone. I have a "hard" save right before completion of Oh My Papa, but even there it seems to be broken, For The Republic does not update after giving the book to Papa Khan.

Any ideas?

The reason why: because some quest stages , there are triggers that are needed to be tripped, and some NOT be tripped. When these fire, they are entered into the game Xp , your players stats. are you Good or Evil, are you friend or Foe? these things all come in to play and effect the stages. IF the stages and these things are not met as designed, then the quest stages fail, if you run a mod that has failed stage messages turned off, or some mod effects the dialog s to that point ,again, triggers fail.

chances are you have data that contains Deleted lines in it, and because these are deleted, they don't run.

not with the current game set. basically I need to see your load order , just to get an idea of what you have. Let's se, this is New Vegas? correct. and the DLC's al installed, there is a lot of em too, dirt cheap on steam. From editing things of the master files, there were things in there not meant to be touched, deliberately removed and left so other things would and in that spot according to what wverr transpired in the game.

these Guy's and gals that made the games DLC's are real smart, I kid you not. the Gurus of the time will tell you some things are best left alone if you do not know why it is that way.

the latest DEV issues of FNVEdit are not kids toys, Very powerful control data /scripts are available and can literally rip the main master apart if one wanted too. 31 is whats on the nexus I assume. things have gone way past that version now, so much, things can snowball and get out of hand if released at this time. Believe me, 31 is all you should need. now, the correct setup for it depends on you and what you want to do with it. not sure if the guide has been updated yet, I need it not. some one may chime in here for that.

IF you are running ONLY falloutNV? then all you need to do is start over. but you have done this already. the problem is, consoling "using the console commands" breaks the scripts and ruins the games play. this is most likely you issue here.

If this is way over your head, please tell me so I don't sit here and post up a storm looking like a fool.

I know the very basics of FNVEdit, but I never really used it.

I use the console pretty often. Mostly to "cheat" modded items or whatever. I usually do not mess around with quests except there is a way to fix a problem described on the fallout wikia.

Just noticed: some named NCR NPCs are hostile for no reason and there was a NCR military police guy after me. (NCR fame: "Good natured rascal" now that I shot the military police, it was better before. The named NPCs I'll calm using the console for now.) I don't even got a warning, and I also do not talk to Yes Man or work for the Legion. I have no idea what this is for.

somewhere on the networks I placed a couple of screen shots that show exactly the correct settings for FNVedit31 to use if your not familiar with it, but that load order has known mods that need attention.

as far as cheating goes, LOL ! , "never prosper ! ...sorry, could not resist that. you have what can be considered cheat mods installed, so that might be a start.

as far as I know of some of these mods ,code from one touches the master game file and code from another touches the same points but does not show up in the edit program because these point are from Dialog hits, scripted in if things go right or wrong. They are not inline so you can't see the connections.

The game engine builds constantly, this building is not seen, nor is the instructions that control the build, it's all wild, fuzzy logic can be used.

Fame, is an out come of circumstances, xp, good and evil. New Vegas proved to be a new breed in RPG's ,Wit, it gonna get even better .... Fallout 4...oh man.

all these effect XP, Karma is another word for it ,fame again, another word for the same thing, these things are calculated during game time, actions speak loader than words.

can't teach you haw to use the tools because you need to taught in person or by trial and error after reading the basics. there are forums threads all over about the tools use too. The game, the mods and actions all come into play at once, if the mods are broken, in the wrong order ,or corrupted, you have problems.

  1. "I don't even got a warning, and I also do not talk to Yes Man or work for the Legion." That's an action, it effects how the game runs down stream. This could be why, understand, from day 1, these scripts are running until the quest stages complete, once completed, they are nulled out. if a mod bellow keeps them turned on, a loop can occur at level up, this usually ends up as a freeze, and nothing you can do will remove this action as the XP needs to update but can't write errors.

I recall on the NVEC thread, some talk about the Legions and the Khans bugs. have a look there and see if your issue was posted, something I know is there about this.
