Rhiana
I want to make a gift for a friend. I was thinking of custom paintings for his game, but I am not quite sure how to go about it. It has to be something I can zap to him, and preferably not too hard to install on his end. I am getting quite good at making the paintings, and I can do them as dds files or make them into nifs. Ideally, I would like to add in my paintings to a shop, and he could use decorators assistant to hang them in his battlehorn castle. Battlehorn castle is really short on artwork anyway, so this is my favorite option. Another choice is to use the paintings and tapestries mod, and just change the dds in that to one of mine, but that replaces all the paintings in the game, so my custom painting would be popping up all over oblivion. Or i could use the custom paintings mod that you buy the paintings on the dock in anvil, open it, replace the dds and repack it. But I'm not really fond of the easels, I would much rather have them hanging on a wall where you don't bump into them. So basically, how hard would it be to add custom paintings to a shopkeepers inventory? Or is there a better way that I haven't thought of?
Pronam
You could replace a painting yourself, by changing the .dds file...but also the .nif file that holds it. If you give that one a new name, as for the .dds.. you could use an existing painting, but alter it and get it in CS as a new painting. Look at this article, it is one of my favorites: How to create New-Retextured items If you don't understand it just tell.

To be special i suggest u to make one blank book, when u cast the particular spell on it the paintings on the book will show,Maybe my idea isn't very good. but OK Be happen u all. Rhiana
Thanks for the ideas. I have the paintings made, dds and nif files. What I am not sure about doing is how to get them into his game easily. I knida wanted to do it in a way that it was all packaged, so to speak, and he didn't need to use the construction set to drop it into the world. My latest thought is making a companion, giving her the paintings as inventory. He adds the companion to his game and takes the items with share. Right now we are both using Companion share and recruit, but I think maybe it would be easier using using CM Partners. I would have to give him the items files too, but all he would have to do is activate the new companion's esp and drop the painting texture and mesh into his files, right? Pronam
yeah, but you can't use them then..:). I can't tell anything about droppable paintings...I don't have it.But this one seems very easy to use I guess... you wouldn't need the nif at all. Rhiana
That so far is my #2 options. I have tried it and it does work and is easy enough. the easels are a bit of a pain. Maybe im misunderstanding the way it works, but I was thinkings that if I gave him the companion, and she was holding the items, he would put the nif and dds files into his meshes and textures, and then used the companion's share feature. He could take the paintings from her, and then use decorators assistant to hang them on the walls at battlehorn. Am I misunderstanding how it works? Pronam
Lol, I'm probably... I don't use it. It basically works like this. You place .nif and .dds in the meshes and textures folders and you assign them in CS.But...there are a few mods that skip that part and do that for you inside the game...I can't tell much about these mods..but they look interesting enough to use/try it for.Short said, you could check at yours if it works ..if it does you could give it to your friend.
