ArabWarFighter Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 so i just deleted my saves game cause it was bugged cause i couldn't join either factions in the game and even though i installed the latest patch and unofficial skyrim patch i currently have installed over 130 mods and the game runs just fine but i hear people say that installing 60 mods is alot! i didnt know this so if 60 is alot then how many mods am i supposed to download? and do ENB count?
aryan826 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 hello. common question. the answer is really, it isn't so much the amount of mods. its what modsor example you can install 1000s of armor and texture mods and have no issues, but if you in stall 1 bad mod it can mess up you saves. even after uninstalling it.
aryan826 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 also i have about 300 mods and my game runs fine. most of the time (my old saves which have scripts from old mods are just completly dead now. but my new game save peachy. as for ENBs i don't think there is any proof that these actually harm your saves. if you don't have a great rig it can cause lag, but its nothing permanent

Oubliette Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 hello. common question. the answer is really, it isn't so much the amount of mods. its what modsor example you can install 1000s of armor and texture mods and have no issues, but if you in stall 1 bad mod it can mess up you saves. even after uninstalling it. It is a common question but the answer isn't as easy as this post would lead you to believe, in fact it's blatantly wrong in some points. The absolute maximum number of esm/esp files you can have running in one save file is 255. You can install as many espless mods as you like, these are mostly simple texture and mesh replacers though even some of them require an esp. You can further expand upon the number of mods in a particular save file by learning how to merge mods - that's only for advanced mod users however. There are plenty of people who run several hundred mods without glitches (I currently have 570 installed and playing nicely together) so the amount of mods you can have running without bugs depends on two factors that have nothing to do with Skyrim itself - you and the mods you're using. If you pick a buggy mod, you'll get bugs. First you need to learn how to evaluate mods for your game. There's more to it than this but for now, lets just say mods with at least 100 endorsements are probably bug free. The next factor is you. How familiar you are with using mods, how carefully you read and understand mod installing instructions. If you have a basic grasp on trouble shooting mods and testing mods to make sure they actually work without screwing up your game. <--- that right there sounds like your sticking point. You should start by reading some tutorials on how to install, test and clean mods. You should then pick out a small number of mods (lets say 5) to install and test One At A Time. I would suggest picking 5 different types of mods (1 mesh/texture replacer, 1 script heavy mod, 1 companion/dialogue heavy mod, etc etc) read the instructions for each of them carefully, follow them to the letter and take note of the uninstall instructions as well. Start a new game with no mods loaded, save after you've finished helgen but before they give you the final chance to solidify your characters face, race etc. KEEP THAT SAVE. It will be your clean save that you use for testing purposes. Install your first mod. Get to testing. Good luck.

aryan826 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) mods that add npcs are notorious for this sort of thing. e.g interesting npcs. this mod adds hundreds of scripts to your game. and where this is not impossible to fix it is time consuming. some mods that affect blood behavior (not textures) can have a similar affect. as it applies a new script to every single npc. this can be a problem. and finally (there are others but these 3 are the most common) certain quest mods. e.g Maids 2 deception (sexy maids of skyrim) this is a very script heavy mod also. also if you are into this thing (which i totally am so am not jugging) but sex mods especially sex lab [as it is a work in progress] is also very scrip heavy Edited April 7, 2014 by aryan826
chanchan05 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Bugs also happen if you remove scripted mods mid game. DO NOT DO THAT. Adding mods that changes the load order and form ID's is also bad in the long run. The best is to start and end a particular character with the mods you started it with.
