installing mods - re-name folders in folders?

Please point me to where I should be if this is answered by an FAQ, and apologies.

I have downloaded and installed a couple of mods - all fine there and appear to be working as they should.

Now I want to put another one on, so I do the usual thing, which has worked OK up til now, of going into the game Data folder, and then putting all the new mods texture folders into the Data\Texture folder, all the new sounds into the Data\Sounds folder, all meshes into Meshes, etc.

Trouble is now that in respect of the new folders I want to put in, two or three nested folders have the same name as folders belonging to other mods previously put in there, 'clutter' for instance.

Unless I change the folder name, one will overwrite the other - and something will stop working, I should suppose.

Do I rename the folder, do I take out the files and put them in the other folder with the same name, or what?

DO NOT RENAME ANYTHING!!!

Copy (textures, meshes, etc) to data folder and when asked to replace click yes...it will just add files to clutter and other subfolders in tex, meshes...

every mesh or textures needs to be in right path so fallout can find it...

Many mods are adding files to same subfolders like clutter...

So don't rename anything...just copy texture folder(not files that are in it)

go to data folder and paste...

fred - to my rescue again :) No need to shout though! I gots the message.

Please may I clarify - I copy all the new mod 'texture' subfolders ( for example) into the Data\Texture folder - I don't just plonk the whole new mod Texture folder into Data or into the Data\Texture folder. Zat right?

anyway, OK, I just allow it to replace and it will actually add to what is already there, somehow, Yes? Thankyou Fred :)

Gracie:

Yep, as Fred said:

Extract the mod archive to Data. Any meshes/textures will overwrite the ones in the "standard" sub-directories. Many mod authors create their own sub-directories, e.g., Data\Textures\Armor\azargypsy, while others replace vanilla Fallout3 content, e.g., texture replacers, body replacers, etc.

When installing, if I know there will be textures/meshes overrides that I don't want, I just step through the install and choose not to install that particular mesh/texture, for example if some mod adds a new texture and I have know I have a mod like McNeil's, it will show up in the extraction as being smaller than the file it wants to replace -- since McNeil's are hi-res textures, I would want to select "No" during the archive extraction so that the higher resolution textures aren't replaced by the new mod's lower resolution ones.

ok, thanks both of you. Seems I have been doing it a bit wrong then as I have been putting the subfolders in the respectively named folders already present in the games Data folder.

Hmmm. Perhaps I ought to uninstall the mods and do it all again - reinstall the game and then put the mods in PROPERLY. Gosh, hate to think I have to go all the way back to the beginning - but if that is what I gotta do..... (sob).

Serves me right... don't deserve no sympathy.. (sniff, boo-hoo).
