Movement Controlls For The 360 (bad)

I've gamed on Atari, NES, SNES, PSX, PS2, and PC. From what I can tell, PC is best for most genres (especially FPSs and RPGs), but there are a few games I prefer the console for - fighting games, action games, and a large selection that just isn't available on PC - the FF series (the PC ports don't exist), tenchu, star ocean...in fact, most japanese style RPGs, soul reaver, etc.

I find multiplayer games more fun to play online, because it gives a more immersive experience (split screen multiplayer is the pits). Turn based multiplayer (or just passing off the controller once in a while) is fine on console though - multiplayer games in person are a much different experience.

You can buy a computer with specs to run oblivion at low settings for about $4-500 (no monitor). I always thought of buying a console (especially when it first comes out) to be something for people with money to burn. A good computer will not only last you a similar about of time (3-5 years before technology has gone far enough ahead to make your computer seem dilapidated; also about the same time for a new generation of consoles to come out), but can also be used for so much more (and I don't just mean porn and forum crawling).

As for the thread topic, I'd imagine one stick would be used to move while one is used to look around (ie, replaces the mouse). Using both at once to move wouldn't work - you'd have to ensure both sticks are pointing in the same direction. However, if you look right while pressing up on the movement stick, you'd turn right. Perhaps that was this is what the person meant when saying you need both sticks to move - left/right on the movement stick strafes - so you need to use look and use the movement stick for a full range of motion. I know that I can't move comfortably in Morrowind just using the keyboard - I also have the mouse in hand so I can look around at all times - including over my shoulder for signs of the Dark Brotherhood ^^

Well now the Oblivion promotional tours are in progress. Reviewers are getting a chance to play Oblivion on both platforms. It seems that the demo set-ups are designed so the performance of the PC and Xbox are equal.

Both are using displays described as huge and 20" or 24". The resolutions are set at 1280 x 768.

...and what PC did they choose to match the performance of the lowly Xbox?

3.4 GHz Pentium

2 GB RAM

ATI X1900 512 MB

The reviewers report that the AA was turned off on the PCs.
