Texture Size Problem

Recommended Posts

Whenever I edit/create a texture for Oblivion, the file size is waaay to big (1024 KB), even if the texture is small (Just made a 1024 KB 120x120 texture), and if I undo everything I did and save it the file size stays 1024 KB. I use GIMP 2.0, Please help cause I don't want to release my mods until they are as big as they are supposed to be.

:thanks:, Peppez

I haven't used GIMP, but I use Photoshop quite frequently. A very common problem I've encountered is when they go to save the image as a JPEG or GIF, they leave the default PPI (Pixels Per Inch) setting or have changed it and forgot.

What this can do is inflate the file size and thus its storage size because what you edited as a 120px by 120px image changes to a larger image when converted to a JPEG. For example: your settings could be at 300 PPI but the default JPEG conversion is at 250 PPI so the image is spread out.

I don't know if GIMP does this, but it's something to look into.

you can use GIMP to save your stuff as TGA, and use dds converter to convert it back to dds.

That way you dds should be smaller...

I have a 4096*4096 body texture that is like 80 some MB using GIMP

and after I use dds converter, it is now 20MB

see if this helps
