bben46
HGEC is not the simplest mod to start with. I recommend starting simple and increasing in difficulty as you learn. By jumping directly into a mid difficulty mod you are creating problems for yourself. HGEC has SPECIAL install instructions, read the readme included. I have a set of help files for people who are not computer geeks and are new to mods. They include downloading, extracting (unzipping) installing and activating mods. I have included a simple mod to practice on and instructions for installing and using 7-zip. If you are interested, click on the highlighted link below to be taken to the site where they are kept. I recommend starting with #1 and working your way through them. http://s1.zetaboards.com/TheStormRavenLibrary/forum/256092/ If you use them I would appreciate some feedback as to what needs improvement and what works for you. Please be honest and don't worry about hurting my feelings with criticism as I have a thick skin.

bben46
The tutorial does not go into nif or dds files. It is an extremely simplified install. Most unziping programs will automatically use the built in structure of the game to place nif (meshes) and dds ( textures) in the proper folders. IF you unzip directly into the Oblivion/data folder. If you wish to use the OMOD format, it's a little different. Try this site: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index..._Create_an_OMOD

Try this site: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index..._Create_an_OMOD Thanks I figured it out after slowly reading and paying attention to the read-me, ive now got about 6 mods working perfectly. What i was doing wrong was unzipping the folders to a folder i made and trying to add them in using OBMM, so after reading the readme I re-downloaded them and saved the zipped files (not unzipping them) into the obmm\mods folder or something like that, and made an archive. But yeah I read your tutorial thing, skipped the parts i know about, but looks very good for complete beginners. I have had some experience installing mods in many games, making mods for halo PC (extremely easy i know but still) and installing and starting to make mods for WoW. But yeah thanks for the help lol
bben46
Sounds like you are off to a good start. We get that "How do I install mods" several times a week, and we don't know what the technical capability of the asker is, so I just start them with the beginner tutorial and wait for the next question. Many times that is exactly what they need. OMODs are better for people who will install a lot of mods, and remove and add mods a lot. The OMOD format allows a complete removal of a mod just by disabling the OMOD in OBMM. Using the 'normal' install if you just disable the esp it leaves behind all of the texture and mesh files to cause problems. When you disable an OMOD it removes everything, and keeps it available to be reinstalled when it is enabled again.
