Cell locations in game?

Hi all. Have searched the forums but can't seem to find an answer to this one...

If I'm in game and find a location that I would like to put a house or something on (especially wilderness locations), what's the easiest way to find that location in the CS? I've done the "player.getpos" code in game, but the coords it gives don't seem to be anywhere near the coords for the cells in CS. And some of the locations I find in game aren't near any cities that I can use for reference in the CS.

Thanks for any replies!

I loose it ever time! There is some map out there that shows all coordinates on a map.

Another trick is to get the nearest dungeon and got to its exterior. (Most dungeons have a named exterior that can be found too.)

I'll try to get that post back...

Usually, it's best to just go off memory... You know, taking a look at the area and remembering what it looks like, looking at the map as to where that area is near. Then, going into the CS, going to that place where that area is near, and using arrow keys to move around until you find that location. There are only a few locations, normally out in the middle of nowhere, and lacking open, flat ground, that would be particularly difficult to do this with.

The only case where this wouldn't work is if you were using some mods that already affected that area, in which case, you're kinda SOL. Afterall, if you picked that spot for one reason (proximity to something nearby, flat open land, has a cool looking group of trees) it shouldn't take long to find that spot in the CS once you have some area to look in. And who knows... In the process of searching you might find a better spot, or see something else nearby which was not visible in game (oblivion gates) that can cause a problem with what you want.

Yeah, going off memory is what I've been trying to do. I had found the grid map a couple days ago which helps some, but was hoping there was a better way since the coords in game don't really match the CS ones. Oh well. I guess the good thing about going from memory is possibly coming across an area you like better, like Vagrant0 was saying :)

..since the coords in game don't really match the CS ones..

Those grids Exactly match the ones from the game/CS..... rather than the the axis again you'll always will be a bit busy as there are enough factors why a certain place can't be used as said.

Yes, the coords on the map link you gave match the cell coords in the CS. What I'm saying is, when I'm in game and do the "player.getpos" code, it always gives some huge number, rather than the small numbers the CS uses for cell coordinates, so it's hard to tell where I was in game when I load up the CS. Take "Wendir" for example...the CS coords for the cell where Wendir is are (-19,17), but when I go to Wendir in-game and do the "Player.GetPos" code, I get (-75185.41, 69302.72). See what I mean? :)

How sad there isn't a 'getCellCoord' X/Y command. I'll check if it isn't in the OBSE wishlist, if there is any wishlist. Btw, what is suposed to do the 'getParentCell' command? Could it be used for this?

Perhaps someone can end up with a system based on distance checks to get exact cell coords IN-GAME? That'd be really useful for thoose that doesn't know yet the full map by memory as someone does, I guess :P
