Irregularly long load times for item menus

When I am playing oblivion, the in-game item menus take anywhere from 5 to 30 seconds to load. When the item menus are loaded, I can flip through all the item menus seamlessly. The problem is switching in between item menus and magica, stats, maps and quest menus. I don't have more items than is meant for the game to handle if you are wondering.

Is there something I can change to allow oblivion to use more memory for loading item menus?

Any background program, such as a instant messenger, vonage or almost anything can take up memory. Try disabling all background processes except those absolutely needed to see if that is what is causing this. Microsoft Help - How to perform a clean boot. For more help in fine tuning see this site: http://www.tweakguides.com/

Do the system tweaks first, then the tweaks for your video card, - these will apply to any game and to the computer in general. then, do the game tweaks last as they only apply to the particular game.

There is a bug that causes slow downs at about 200 hours of play. It affects opening containers, doors, flames and slows things to a crawl. If you are not using the unofficial oblivion patch, there is a separate program to fix this - Animation Fixer: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5127

My first thought was to try those, but they didn't work. The problem isn't accessing items from containers, it's accessing them from the in-game menu. I thought that was weird, because what makes those two different. So I was hoping there was an oblivion.ini tweak that would allow me to add cache to the background loading process for items in the menus if it existed. Any time I have to access the items tab in that menu, I have to wait.
