sullyvanj93 Posted April 11, 2014 Share Posted April 11, 2014 So I've tinkered with my personal geck files a bit, and I have weakened melee weapons in NV by about 30-75%, depending on how strong they were. I don't rightly know how to change the rates at which ammo is found, however. Has anyone seen or thought about making a complete mod like this? I have a few main points that I think would make a great realistic playthrough mod. 1: You are forced to use your precious ammo EXTREMELY carefully, relying primarily on under-powered melee weapons and stealth much more than usual. You may have 17 rounds in your pack, but thats really four 9mm rounds, six 5.56 shots, two .44 mag bullets, two 12-gauge slugs, and three .223 rounds for when you've used up your 5.56 and have no other options. 2: Companions would no longer be able to use unlimited ammo, you would have to provide them with a few rounds, then maybe add a script that auto-switches them to melee when they run dry. 3: Enemies might fire a few shots at you, then switch to combat knives, depending on their faction and resources they would realistically have in a wasteland where ammo is hard to come by. 4: Reloading would be ESSENTIAL, although the supplies would also be in short supply. 5; The prices of guns may go down slightly, as people are less inclined to use them; however the price of ammo would skyrocket with merchants. 6: As stated above, I simply weakened the power of the melee weapons, however a more experienced modder might make it so ignoring DT is a thing of the past, and melee weapons hit like hallow-points. Might be more realistic than simply changing the damage the weapons do. basically I'm picturing a rarity of ammo similar to "the last of us", if anyone has played that game. You may have two shots in your revolver, but you're using that brick or that knife converted from scissors until *it* hits the fan. As for the lore of the game, I really don't think this is too far stretched. I mean honestly, the rich would still have their ammo, they just might conserve it a bit more. The casinos would still have their bodyguards armed to the teeth. The gun runners would keep demand high and supply down so that they were rolling in the money. The van graffs would still keep the "riff raff" away, only dealing with people who could afford to pay their high prices. Sure, after you bankrupt all the casinos and loot every known building in the entire mohave, you might find yourself with a nice stockpile of ammunition. But honestly, when you can just play a tenth of the game, reach novac, buy whatever amount of rounds you want, and kill most enemies with a few shots of your assault rifle? I mean, you're a mailman who's killed a group of jailbirds, lizards, scorpions, and maybe a few highwaymen. You shouldn't be loaded yet. I dunno, maybe I'm the only one that gets bored with that. Hoping some skilled modders feel the same way. Your thoughts on the issue would be greatly appreciated. Maybe you'd like to see a mod like this? maybe you have the skill to do it? maybe you think I'm wasting forum space, who knows. Just let me know what you think.
