daddy
Can someone help me with this? 1 How do I charge my gems? It dosent say in the manual >:( 2 How do i trap a soul in the gem? That`s not in the manual >:( I used a soul trap scroll on the target befor killing it, but nothing happend. I am not a noob to morrowind, been playing for some time :P . But i am a noob with the magic stuff  . Making the enchantment is well coverd in the bloody manual, but that does not help if you cant charge those freaking gems. Thanks to all who replays :excl:
Marxist ßastard
Equip the soul gem as you would a ring or book, and you'll be placed in a menu system on what to do with the gem. Select the option to charge an item. Cast a spell with a soul trap effect on the target. The target must be neither an NPC nor Dagoth Ur (corprus beasts, ascended sleepers, ash slaves, &c. are fair game, however), and you must kill the target before the soul trap effect expires. The target's soul will be placed in the lowest-value empty gem that can hold it, meaning that you will also need to have at least one empty gem that is of a sufficient value to hold the soul. Grand soul gems become plentiful in smuggler caves once you're of a high enough level, and Tribunal adds an enchanter with an infinite supply of them; they will hold anything (although they are not immune to the caveats listed above) you throw at them, with the exception of a very select few unique placed creatures. The next step up from a grand soul gem is the unique soul gem Azura's Star. Keeping in mind that it is arranged that, from the start of the game onward, the PC must be the first charachter to get this, and keeping in mind what appear to be Azura's designs on you, it should be fairly simple to ascertain what this gem's advantage is over a grand soul gem. Cardboard Box
And here's a quick rundown of what those soul gems can hold for you from my experience.Petty: animals (rats, kagouti, cliff racers etc.)Lesser: Skeletons, maybe ancestor ghostsCommon: Scamps, ClannfearsGreater: Ogrims, dremoras, daedrothi, hungers?Grand: Lesser Dagoths, Winged Twilights, Golden SaintsConstant effect enchantments can be made with grand soul gems except when you have a lesser Dagoth in there. Apparently... well... they just lack soul. And with animal souls, I wouldn't bother with anything below an alit or kagouti. Not enough charge. daddy
Thanks again. But I wonder if I do something wrong. I had a gem, and droped it on my avatar like I do a ring, and nothing happend. No new screen where i could pick charge... My enchanting level is 32. Enough? Or do I need School of Mysticism? I can tell you how my avatar is: Dark elf, warrior Major: Longblade, blocking, light armor, enchanting, athletic.Minor: Security, sneak, acrobatics, marksman, armorer. Should it work with that? If this dont work, can you please set up a new clas for me. because with this magic stuff I am lost. I would like to be dark elf tho. Or Is there anything better? Marxist ßastard
Is the gem you're using charged? It needs to display the name of a creature in parentheses after its own name -- IE, Grand Soul Gem (Dremora Lord).

Malchik
I think Marxist has said it all but I have a couple of suggestions. If you have empty soul gems they will fill of their own accord provided the creature you kill fits the criteria listed (i.e you won't get a winged twilight in a petty soul gem) and provided the soul trap spell is still in effect when the creature dies. The effect of these spells wears off at varying speeds. Maybe you are not quick enough? If you are successful you get the message 'you have trapped a soul'. If you have several types of empty soul gem on you it may fill one you are not looking at. (Unlikely but possible). If all else fails there are soultrap weapons in the game. Complete Balmora mages guild quests, learn of Umbra in Suran or kill the friendly NPC who owns Temreki 'Shackler of Souls'. The weapons have limited charges but almost always work if you hit with the weapon when it has charges. BTW a gem does not have to be 'charged' before you trap a soul, any empty gem will do. After it is filled you can use it to enchant but until it is filled you will not be able to get your enchant menu up IIRC. If you want to practice enchanting there are some filled gems in game already either in dungeons or available for sale. You can even steal Galbedir's in the mages guild Balmora during the second MG quest there - but don't ask her to do any enchanting for you if you do.
