Dark Fissure Crashes When I Try To Enter

Hi everyone. I am using FCOM and an assortment of mods. The game crashes frequently but so far only terminally crashes in two outdoor places all the time. However, the mages quest keeps having reoccuring terminal crashes in key caves for some reason. I had the same problem when I got my staff; im not sure how it got fixed but not dark fissure keeps crashing when i try to enter it. Does anyone have any way to teleport inside the cave or otherwise clear the problem? All suggestions are welcome - it's a quest breaker - the entire mage quest I imagine. Thanks for any help you can offer.

UPDATE: For anyone else having problems with the mages quest. Every mission I have gone on since arcane university has resulted in a crash when you try and enter the location. And by crash I mean, it keeps crashing no matter how many times you try to reload and re-enter. However, if I enter another cave or adventure area (I don't think towns work for this) and you do some adventuring in that other location, kill a few beasts, steal some treasure, etc. and THEN go back to the mages quest location, so far it seems to do the trick... still, if anyone else has any thoughts I would be glad to hear them!

Further Update: When I saw it was working, I did some in game errands (shopping, etc.) and went back and now it's crashing again. Worse, whatever bug is causing it to crash is retroactive because the saved game where it worked is no longer permitting to enter the area again. Sigh. Very frustrating. Especially the retroactivity of the crash. Apparently, this issue keeps happening with any area i need to enter in the mages quest. If an area is multilevel it will crash all the time in each level. Somehow I have been able through lots of reloading and trying other things, to eventually get it to work so far, but it takes an hour per level. Any SPECIFIC help please? (although I appreciate all the general advice). Is there something wrong with FCOM and the mages quest? Thanks.

What you describe sounds like it may be caused by something that was removed. If an object is removed when you remove a mod (for example a shrine) then when you look in the direction it used to be when in a place where you should be able to see it, the game tries to load it. when it can't find it, CTD.

 

To fix, figure out what the object is (was) and go through the texture, mesh and other folders looking for some trace of it. instead of deleting the traces , MOVE them to a temporary folder somewhere outside of the Oblivion folder just in case that was not it.

 

Go into a safe place, usually an interior that has not been changed by any mods and make a save.

 

Exit the game. start the game, load the save and test.

 

If all else fails, you may have to reinstall - all is not lost however, as my uninstall/reinstall allows you to save all of your mods and saved games.
