A few questions about modding.

As far as I can go this goes here, I have a few questions about modding Fallout 3. First off I do have basic modding experience with lua in Supreme Commander Forged Alliance.

Now for the questions

what is the limit to what can and can not be done? Example could a person if they were willing to take the time create a whole new world environment, like mothership zeta?

Secondly for creating new weapons is there anything that has to be specially done or can you use any in game weapon model and make it do something different, like have to fat man as a machine gun?

Thirdly I do know that there are plenty of GECK tutorials out there and many that can get you started. But I want to know what is the general opinion of the entire modding scene. Worth learning? Relatively easy to learn or something that a newb should not even think about.

Thanks for your time. I would also like to say whoever made that .50 rifle and the Alien pulse rifle, you have my upmost respect and you are the ones who convinced me to get FO3 for PC.

To answer your questions-

1) Yes, of course. Check out the link in my sig or the various other large world mods out there.

2) Definitely. Remember, you can do almost anything Bethesda could do, with a few exceptions.

3) Sure, go for it! We all start out as "newbs," it just takes some practice and a lot of patience. It takes a while to get the hang of it, but it pays off.

Yep, I hadn't modded anything before, myself before diving into something large. While that isn't recommended, it can be done. There is a bit of a learning curve and the tools are a bit buggy, but it's a pretty accessible system and pretty open, too. Some mods are absolutely astounding, Enhanced weather comes to mind.

Besides, this forum and the official Bethesda forums are filled with smart folks who can answer questions or direct you to the search function if it's FAQ worthy.
